“Damn right!” Derek high-fived Jarod and the rest of the team shouted in agreement.

Kitty snorted. “Yeah? Who’ll protect us from you?”

The other pom girls laughed and Kirk felt heat rising up his neck. They need to listen to me!“I’m not the one you need to worry about.”

“Really?” Kitty said. “My mom says a man who hits a woman is dangerous, and actually no man at all.”

Kirk forced himself to unclench his jaw. No way was he going to let that bitch see that she got to him. “Good thing that I’ve never hit a woman.”

“Only because Hunter Goode knows how to duck,” Colleen muttered as she flipped her long, reddish curls over her shoulders and frowned at him.

“That witch knows a lot more than how to duck.” Kirk ground the words through his teeth. “She knows what’s wrong with this town—and it’s her and her slut of a sister.”

“Okay, let’s go ladies.” Kitty stood and brushed nonexistent dirt off her long, tanned legs. “We’re not listening to this slut-shaming garbage.”

“Wait! The party’s just gettin’ started!” Dillon Sanders looked dejected. “Hey, I know! Let’s skinny-dip! It’s dark.” He waggled his eyebrows at the girls. “And we sorta promise we won’t look while you strip down and jump in the water, right, guys?”

“Yeah!” his friends shouted.

“That would sound much more appealing if we had wine coolers,” said Kitty. “Thanks, but no thanks. We’re bored. So, time to go.”

Kirk was trying to figure out how to stop them without pissing them off more, when his phone bleeped with a text message. He pulled it out of his pocket and his lips tilted up as he read:

Dearest Kirk, The Christians of this town are meeting at the park. We will march from there to the Goode house in protest of their Satanic connection. Because you are a great leader of young men, and like-minded with me in our battle against the Devil, I would like you and your friends to join us. I hope you can make it. Love in Christ, Mrs. Ashley.

That’s it! Something the girls will find interesting. And a great opportunity to help the town get rid of those Goode bitches.

Kirk grinned at Kitty and let his inner voice guide him. “Shame you’re leaving, but so are me and the guys. We’re gonna go have some real fun.”

“Real fun?” Colleen asked. “Like what?”

“Well, remember last year when we TP’d the Freeman sisters’ house and put Vaseline on all their doorknobs?” Kirk said.

Kitty lifted on shoulder. “Yeah, I remember.”

“Do you also remember hiding in the bushes and laughing our asses off when those two old women came out on their porch and freaked?” Kirk pantomimed an old woman gasping in shock. Then, still in character, he ran in place as he mimicked one of the Freeman sisters. “‘Oh, you kids! I’ll get you kids!’”

Kitty giggled softly. “She didn’t have a bra on and she jiggled like a giant Jell-O mold.”

“Right?” Kirk beamed his most charming smile at her. “Just good clean fun—especially ’cause we used toilet paper.”

“So, what do you have in mind?” asked Kitty.

“Welllll…” He drew out the word and continued to smile his best harmless smile. “I just heard about a big gathering that’s going on at the park. I promise you—it willnotbe boring.”

“Gathering? What kind of gathering?” asked Colleen.

Kirk shrugged and lied smoothly. “Not one hundred percent sure. Service is crap out here. But everyone is gonna be there ’cause it has something to do with all the murders going on, and that’s gottabe more fun than TP-ing an old woman’s house.” His gaze met Derek’s. “Hey man, how ’bout you and me and the guys pile into that monster truck of yours and head to the park to check out what’s going on?”

As usual, his wingman didn’t let him down. “Hell yes!”

Kirk stood a little taller as his men looked at him expectantly. His gaze moved to Kitty and the girls. “You coming?”

“I don’t know. A lot of crazy stuff has happened lately,” said Kitty.

Kirk’s expression flattened. “If you’re too scared, don’t go.”

Kitty’s blue eyes narrowed. “Actually, I do kinda want to check out what’s going on.”
