Gannon considered what he was saying and nodded in agreement. Max taught him a great deal over the years, so Gannon respected him immensely. Ever since Rose took off last year, he and Max had gotten closer. Now that Rose was back, he was wondering how long it would take for Max to switch up. Gannon knew when motherfuckers were moving different. He always expected that shit because of how he was treated when he didn’t have shit.

“Okay, you want me to let Rose know what’s going on?”

“Nah, it will be better coming from me,” Max answered, shaking his head. “I will talk to him later. I need to head out and get to this meeting.”

“Max… Minx and Rose, I know they close and shit.”

“Close is one way to put it. What? You feeling some kind of way about them?” Max asked, reading his thoughts.

“I don’t know what to think. Is that shit even normal for her to have a best friend that’s a man? The fuck am I going up against?” Gannon asked.

“That’s up to you. I love Rose. That’s my son in every way. He can be a hothead, but he has his reasons for that. I know that he and Minx are deeply connected. If you want to be with her, you will have to deal with Rose too. He’s a part of the package. If you can’t accept that, which would be understandable, I get it.” Max couldn’t offer any solution.

Much like his wife, he knew that Minx had to do what was best for her. If she wanted a life with Gannon, he would support it. Rose was another story. He knew how lethal that Ambrose Westbrook could be; half the time he banked on that shit. Was he the type of man he wanted his daughter to end up with? That was a hard question to answer. On one side, Rose was loyal to a fault, and a savage when necessary. He was also impulsive, short tempered, and cocky. All in all, the good outweighed the bad. Max knew his daughter would always be protected, but Rose was been dubbed a menace a long time ago. All Max could do was stay out of it and allow Minx to find her way.

Minx sat at the island beside Mille, moving her eggs around on her plate, thinking about Gannon. Her brother stuffed his face, but he peeped her change in mood. When her mother had him, she suffered from postpartum depression terribly, and Minx found herself caring for a newborn at a very young age. Once her mother got herself together, Minx and Mille were already bonded. For her, he was also a form of birth control because she knew she wasn’t ready to be a mother. She adored her little brother, even when he was driving her crazy. His big ass still slept in her bed every other night. Rose noticed her mood too but remained at the circle table eating his food until Gannon wandered in. Nigga was looking guilty as fuck walking up on Minx at the counter. She avoided him staring her down and stuffed eggs into her mouth.

“Yo, can we talk?” Gannon bent his knees so he could look at her.

Bringing her warm eyes to his, she remained without expression.

“About what exactly? The fact that you blew me off… for work… again?” She let her fork drop to her plate, straightening up across from him.

She thought she was over that shit, but the more she sat and thought about it, the more it pissed her off.

“Minx, I didn’t blow you off. You know I been trying to get this club shit together. Two seconds ago, we were cool,” he argued.

“Well, let that be the reason, Gannon. You make time for the shit that means something to you. At least that’s what I was always told. I’m gonna go and get dressed.” She slid her plate to the side and stood.

Gannon watched after her, confused as hell. Mille moved his head back and forth.

“You fucking up, my nigga.” He stuffed his face with Minx’s eggs and chuckled.

Clearing his plate, Rose cleared his throat and brought himself to his feet.

“Mil, go get dressed,” he instructed the kid.

Mille respected and loved Rose. He and Minx practically raised the kid. Doing what he was told, he held a smirk aimed at Gannon on his way out. Rose took his plate to the sink along with the rest of his orange juice in a glass. He swallowed what was left and joined Gannon at the counter. Placing both palms against the counter, Rose studied him. He could tell he was really feeling Minx, nigga had to be crazy not to. Minx was like the sunshine breaking through the clouds on a rainy day. She was something that he’d grown to appreciate over time. Rose lived in darknessup until the point she became a fixture in his life. He understood how easy it was to get caught up in Minx.

“Honesty is always the best policy with Minx,” Rose informed Gannon. “If you can’t keep it a buck with her, might as well bow out now.” He backed off the counter.

“I don’t need your tips on how to deal with my woman.” Gannon reacted.

“You might be fucking her, but you sure about your position in her life? If she ain’t allowed you access to every part of her, all you getting is a shell,” Rose recited.

Gannon didn’t like what he insinuated. With his nostrils flaring, he furrowed his brows.

“And what parts of her have you accessed?” Gannon questioned, watching a frown darken Rose’s face.

He aimed a finger at Gannon on his way to the door.

“See, you’re worried about the wrong shit,” he said, aiming a finger at him on the way to the door. “ And if you got any questions about my relationship with Minx, then that’s something that you need to ask her about.” Gannon didn’t like the fact that another nigga knew his woman better than he did.

Rose wasn’t some sucker ass motherfucker either. He and Minx were deeply rooted in some shit that was hard to explain to people. The relationship was twisted, incestuous, and they weren’t even related. Rose left him alone in the kitchen and went to get cleaned up. On his way upstairs, he peeped his phone and saw that Nadia was calling. Although he was irritated with her and the constant nagging, he didn’t want to spend his time with Minx and this nigga Gannon on no couples’ shit.

“What’s up?” Rose put the phone to his ear and pushed the door open to his bedroom.

“Well, good morning to you. What are you doing today? Want to hang out?” Nadia suggested.
