“Mmm, if you’re alone, you can join my little party.” Her voice is sultry. I’ve dated women before, so I’m not opposed to fucking one tonight. I turn left and see a man approach her. She pulls him into the room. “So, what do you say?”

“Thanks for the offer, but I’ll pass.”

She drags her hand down the man’s body slowly, teasing him, until she reaches his dick. I can see the outline in his pants. He’s hard. She squeezes him, and an animalistic groan escapes him.

“I hope you have fun tonight.” She pulls the man into the room and closes the door. I take a deep breath, get myself together. I need another drink, so I head to the bar for a martini and decide to explore another hallway. I walk by doorless rooms of people fucking while others watch. At the end of the hall, I enter the largest room, and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen. The walls and ceilings are covered with mirrors. In the center are beds where you can see an array of people having sex, every inch of them on display. On one bed, there’s a woman on all fours being pounded from behind. On another, a woman has her face in between another woman’s legs. The moans of pleasure echo throughout the space. I’m so turned on. I feel my pussy throbbing. Everywhere I turn,my reflection stares back at me. What am I doing here? What if someone sees me and recognizes me?

I need to leave. I face the mirrored wall and use it to compose myself. Then I feel someone approach from behind. I’m looking at the mirror, waiting for their reflection to come into view. The lights are low, but I see him. He’s wearing a gold-and-blue Venetian mask that’s hiding his entire face. I try to see his eyes, but I can’t make out the color.

He’s so close. He decides to eliminate any space between us. I feel his hard cock pressed against my lower back. Maybe it's the drink, maybe I just need to be touched, but I don't move. He lowers himself. Even though I can’t see his eyes clearly, I feel his stare through our reflection. His breath on my neck elicits goose bumps.

“So beautiful,” he whispers. His hands grip my waist so tightly. There is no way I’d be able to escape his grasp. “I think your body is aching for attention.”

The logical part of my brain is telling me to leave, but isn’t this why I came? I’m known for having a list of bad decisions; why not add one more?

So I stay.

Chapter 13

I’m staring at mycomputer screen, Tia Susana’s disapproving reaction staring back at me. I hate upsetting her, but this is a decision she needs to respect.

“I can’t believe you decided this without speaking to me,” she reprimands me.

I love my Tia, but she tends to forget who’s in charge. “You know I value your opinion, but I don’t have to run anything by you.” As soon as I say the words, I regret it. I see the hurt in her eyes. “Tia, it’s just business.”

“No, mijo, esto es mas. Do you think it’s what she would have wanted?”

She’s always looking out for me, but she needs to stop thinking for me. “Listen, we’ll talk more when I see you in a couple of days.” I need a break from the city. “Cuidatemucho.”

“You too, mijo.”

I end the call and look at my phone. I see a couple of missed calls from my friend Tomas. He must need something. In the past, he’s asked me to run background checks on his dates. So I assume that’s the request for tonight. I call him back, and after a couple of minutes, I know the small talk is leading somewhere.

“So, how’s it going with Veronica?” Tomas asks. He’s trying to convince me to go out tonight. Things have been quiet, too quiet, when it comes to Veronica and the photos. It makes me anxious. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

“So far so good. I haven’t had to monitor her international traveling, so that’s a win.” I can’t help but laugh because, at one point, she threatened to buy a small island, but then I froze her accounts.

“Seems like a reason to celebrate. You can take the night off; you need it.” He’s looking for a wingman for tonight. It’s not like he needs one. “There’s a party at your favorite club. It would do us both some good to let loose.”

I pull up the tracker and see that she’s still at Berenice’s apartment. It’s not uncommon for her to stay the night, and Berenice is one of the few friends I trust. Especially with the company she’s now keeping. I know the girls are safe. I’m not a fan of the idea of someone watching what’s mine. She’s my job and my responsibility. Unfortunately, when it comes to the other person watching, I don’t have a choice unless I want to start trouble.

“Come on, Miles. Youneedthis,” he pleads.

“You know I don’t attend the big parties. I just do privates.”

“I know, but tonight they are doing their masquerade party, so there will be no way in hell anyone will recognize you. Plus, you do a great job of keeping a low profile.”

He’s right, but he’s being so pushy about it. “Just for a couple of hours—I have a lot of work to do.”

“Don’t you always?” Tomas tells me as if I’m the only one with a busy schedule.

“I’ll let you know when I’m on my way.” Like me, Tomas is too busy and jaded to date. The club offers us both the one thing we want. Pleasure without strings attached. Sure, we can date, but our jobs don’t allow for normal relationships. Not that we want one.

An hour later, we enter the most exclusive sex club in Veridian Bay. This is a very selective and discreet club, unlike others in the city. The membership is an exorbitant amount. You basically sign your fortune away if you break their nondisclosure agreements. We check in with security and receive our mask. I chose a full-face blue-and-gold mask. I put it on and make my way to the bar. I don’t drink, so I order a club soda. The room is buzzing with sexual tension. I see couples stand up and head in various directions. Some go off to the private rooms, and others to rooms where people fuck openly. Tomas joins me and orders his scotch.

“It’s a full house tonight,” he says as he takes a sip of his drink and looks around the room for his “plaything of the night.” As he likes to call them.
