So peaceful.

So sexy and brave and strong.

So—

Her eyes fly open, her lips part, and she gasp-snorts so loudly that Flow pops her head over the edge of the bed and whimpers.

I smile. Can’t help it.

“Morning,” I murmur, squeezing her bare hip. After the third time we had sex last night, I no longer feel the need to reassure myself that she does, in fact, want me to touch her.

She tilts her head at me, and then she does the last thing I expect, and she screams.

Full-on, blood-curdling, nightmare-having scream.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, it’s okay.” My heart tries to rip itself out of my chest and panic floods my mouth. “Just me. Just me. I can go.”

She opens her mouth like she’s about to scream again, but then blinks quickly and squints at me.

Mabel’s voice comes through the door to the bathroom. “Ginny? Did you have a nightmare?”

Ginny grimaces, then looks at me, and she starts to smile a sheepish smile that brings light into her eyes. “Sorry,” she whispers. “Sorry, sorry. I—I slept hard.”

“Good,” I murmur. “And you don’t need to apologize.”

“Ginny?” Mabel calls again. “Did you trip on something in your room?”

I snicker. “Your room really is an epic disaster.”

There’s a click of a knob, and Ginny shoots straight up to sitting, breasts bare, hair bouncing. “Don’t come in if you don’t want to see Declan naked!” she shrieks at the door. She told me that the bathroom connects her room with Mabel’s.

There’s a beat of silence, and then— “So you finally did something about that?”

Ginny’s cheeks turn pink. “Yes.”

“And you’re okay?” Mabel asks.

“I’m great.”

“Just great? Not phenomenal?” I gesture to my morning wood. “I can try again if you want.”

Am I in a good mood?

Yes. Yes, I am.

Made better by the way Ginny’s eyes cross and then the belly laugh that explodes out of her?

Absolutely.

“I’m going downstairs,” Mabel calls. “Tell me later if the sex was good.”

“It was good,” Ginny replies.

“Now I’m being downgraded from great to good?” I clap a hand to my heart. “You wound me. I demand a redo.”

“If this is what you’re like the morning after, this isn’t happening again,” Ginny tells me.

“Because you don’t like him, or because you like him too much and you’re enjoying yourself and that makes you terrified?” Mabel asks through the door.
