Seconds passed as the trailer cut right through her and Peter’s presence. A swift cold breeze void of any sensation seared the pit of her soul but this was only momentary. A swishing sound the kind you hear when a clogged toilet clears played in the distance. Her breath seemed to be cut off as if an invisible hand clutched her throat.

“We’re good. Now let’s do this. “Pulling her across the street Gabby returned her attention to the quaint beige painted rancher she and her mother lived in for as long as she could remember.

Just as she remembered from her childhood days her mother had the outside of their petite home decorated in the festive holiday colors. A twelve foot Santa Clause porcelain statue sat on the porch obediently keeping an eye on the home. Gabby recalled in her childhood thinking that Santa Claus came to life on Christmas Eve his sparkling greenish eyes transforming every child’s deepest wish into reality. Above jolly old St. Nick a stream of white, red and silver lights were filtered in the blue porches ceiling. Adding that special touch of the spirt of Christmas tiny lit up angels holding their hands open to heaven above surrounded the lights.

“I don’t know if my mom will answer if she is having the attack now Peter. How do we get in? “Gabby wondered.

“Remember what I said about the tractor trailer and us not being visible. Same rule here love. We can walk right through this door. Here follow me. “Pulling her through the doors sturdy chestnut surface they were suddenly in the home of her childhood.

Sprawled on the floor right by the Christmas tree her mother lay praying that God not let her die and leave her precious Angel. Moving the black rosary beads between her pudgy hands in her right hand she recited the Hail Mary repeatedly her voice trembling and getting weaker with each line she repeated. Dressed in her red Mrs. Santa Clause outfit complete with the black leather boots she was supposed to attend the Christmas Fair at Gabby’s school. Gabby had recalled the sadness she felt when she found out why her mother hadn’t attended the event. All her pent up sadness resurrected itself to the top of her memory bringing to the forefront the unhappy life she had lead since her mother’s tragic passing.

“Marie look at me. You shall have life. I will put my hands on you and transform the beauty of health back into you. After this you won’t remember a thing. We shall see you soon. “Pressing his palms against her mother’s heaving chest a brilliant orange reddish glow spread from his hands throughout her body.

What followed horrified and amazed Gabby in one instant. Suddenly her mother jolted back and forth her eyes rolling around in her head as if some demon had just taken siege of her. Gabby’s already tense nerves felt like harp strings about to break after a vigorous symphony. Moaning in deep garbled gasps her mother’s once paste white skin transformed into its normal olive tone complexion. Jumping up she began to dust the furniture and rearrange her Knick knacks along the brown table in front of her as if nothing had occurred.

“Mommy. I am so happy to see you are alive. Mommy! Mommy!” Gabby felt her hidden childhood spirit take over as she ran to her mother desperate to hug her and smell her fresh peaches n cream perfume.

Just as she approached her mother she felt firm hand latch onto her shoulder. Not able to move any further she could hear Peter’s distinct orders that she must leave this be as interfering could ruin everything.

“How Peter? I am so happy she is alive. I just want to touch her. Hold her. “Crying Gabby couldn’t believe she was being denied something she waited nearly thirty plus years to do.

“Trust me you’ll thank me later. We must go before this time zone closes us out. Please Gabby trust me. Have I misled you so far? “Stretching out his other hand she reluctantly followed his lead.

Chapter 7

Nearly four months later and many travels down the road Gabby and Peter finally landed in the home of their dreams. Here on a remote island along the Florida Keys somewhere they claimed their new home. The island which didn’t have a name had pristine waters and pure bleach white sand that you only would see in one of those hour glasses.

Making things even better her mother who was well into her eighties now lived with them in their new home. Mother had aged gracefully with her jet black curly hair and bronze skin. She still had that stunning strength in her lagoon shaded eyes. For eight six she still maintained all the cleaning cooking and laundry. Despite Gabby telling her they had the money to hire their own cleaning lady after she had sold nearly fourteen million copies of her latest novel My True Destiny she insisted that Thompkins were never proud people and wouldn’t start now.
