I walked away to the door.

p; “I might know who your mother is.” She shouted at me.

At this I laughed. “Oh, Serena. Is that my punishment for not letting you come? I know who my mother is. I’ve always known. Like I said you need to come to the dinner on Sunday with your decision.”

“You’d still have me? Even though I’ve lied to you?”

“Well, my own behavior has hardly been the stuff angels are made of, has it? Sometimes we have to agree to leave the past where it belongs. As long as the future looks good and as long as the others are still in agreement after they find out your deceit.”

I closed the door behind me, leaving Serena on her bed, her body half naked.

Chapter Twenty-five

Serena

My job here was finished.

As soon as I walked into the hotel I'd have to inform Ted I wouldn't be working there any longer.

I gathered up my belongings and made a reservation back at the hotel near Surfrider beach. Finding out he wasn't working today, I wrote Ted a letter of apology and told him how I really had enjoyed working for him. That his hotel was amazing. Then I left.

Now here I was in my luxury room overlooking the beach and all I could think about were my filthy rich playboys.

It was time to sit and write my story and then decide whether or not I turned it in.

I powered up my laptop and began to type.

The real story behind the Filthy Rich Playboys of Carbon Beach.

“Fuck. I can’t believe it. She had us all fooled.” Flynn’s glare burned through me as the four of us sat in his living room.

“Well, she says it was real. The question is does she choose us or the story, and if she chooses us, do we want her now we know she lied to us?”

“It felt real.” Carter said. “I don’t believe she was lying to us about how she felt. Just about her reasons for being here.”

“Well, we leave her alone until Sunday, and that gives us until then to decide what we’d do if she chose us, and what the fuck we’re going to do if she proceeds with the story bearing in mind we can’t compel her.”

Jayden looked around. “Any of the rest of you think what we are doing is wrong? Looking for one woman? Or is it what we believe in?”

“It’s what we believe in.” I said, and the others murmured their agreement.

“So, if she decides to run with the story, so be it. I’ll do an interview. I ain’t ashamed of who I am.”

“Damn straight.” I said, and we chinked glasses.

It was written. I knew how I wanted my story to end. Now I just had to wait for Sunday…

Chapter Twenty-Six

Serena

With a large exhale I rang the doorbell of Flynn’s house. A member of staff greeted me showing me the family were indeed at home and everything was no doubt being catered. This was confirmed by someone offering me a glass of wine or water the moment I walked through to the patio.
