“So what are you up to?” I asked him.

“You checked your messages yet?”

“No. I can’t find my phone. You lot distracted me when I got in.”

Smith dialed what I presumed was my number on his cell and then went in search of the ringtone. A few minutes later he placed it on the table in front of me. “Leonie has agreed to the move.”

I smiled but then my face fell. “Damn. How am I going to explain that I’m not around the next few days? She’s just going to think I’m messing her around.”

“It’s my mess. I’ll take care of it.”

My eyes roamed his face. “You sure about that?”

“Yeah.”

“Hey, our little boy is growing up.” Jayden took a seat across from us. “Maybe you could also do some chores?”

Smith huffed. “I wasn’t the one dismissed the help.”

“Now you know that’s because we are too juicy a story. And can I just remind you all to be careful around the interior designers and team. They came recommended from Cynthia as being trustworthy.

I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes again. I hated Cynthia Delaware and I’d only met her once. She was a bitch. But she was also someone gossiped about so if she recommended them I’d take Jayden’s word for it that they were alright. Still, Cynthia wasn’t a vampire, just a rich girl, so I wouldn’t let them catch me with a bottle of O-neg in the coming weeks.

I enjoyed my coffee as we chatted and then I excused myself to go pack for my stay.

I slept fitfully, with dreams of dying and dreams of becoming a zombie. When I woke my heart was thudding through my chest, not helped when I realized someone had hold of my hand. I screamed.

“Serena. It’s just me.” Flynn said from his position curled up behind me. “Jesus. You know we have super strength hearing right?”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t sleep well. Lots of nightmares.”

“Yeah, we know. You never stopped tossing and turning.”

I moved up the covers and looked around. “Where are the others?”

“Downstairs. Only once you’d properly fallen asleep in the early hours you slept like the dead. Their vamp stealth helped them get out of bed without disturbing you. I said I’d stay.”

“Thank you.” I patted his hand.

He propped himself up on the pillow. “So, do you want any breakfast?”

I shook my head vehemently. “God, no. I’ll vomit.”

“Coffee.”

I shook my head again. “I’ll get a few sips of water.”

Flynn chuckled. “Now I know it's bad.”

That did actually make me smile.

“That’s better.” He stroked a fingertip down my cheek. “I’m not leaving your side, babe. We got this.”

I swallowed. “I’m so damn scared.”

There was a beat of silence.

“Serena. Do you trust me?”
