“I’m not a yo-yo, sire,” I hissed.
“Then don’t leave me again.”
He was unbelievable!
“I didn’t leave you!” I shouted. “You kicked me out.”
“I was hurt. I was feeling a lot of things. I know I don’t have to remind you, darling, I got tremendously bad news the day before.”
I hated it that he only called me darling when he was annoyed with me.
Though I didn’t get the chance to tell him that because he was still talking.
“Your mom demanded an audience and verbally handed me my ass. Your dad was up next, and he told me he didn’t give a shit if he used every last Truelock mark, I was obviously not making his daughter happy, so the arrangement was null. I was not in the mood for any of this, and I made an ill-advised play.”
“Finally. Something we agree on.”
But…
Dad said that?
“Now, you threw Sigil in my face, you tell me,” he began. “I did all that to you, what would you do?”
I was breathing heavy, my heart was beating hard, and neither of these benefitted from this challenge.
Because the answer was, I’d do something ill-advised, and possibly damaging, and fuck everything up.
What made matters worse, he knew my answer, he sensed me caving, and his voice was gorgeous when he said gently, “Come here, baby.”
“No,” I denied.
“Right.” He looked to the bag I’d put on the island and back to me. “What are we having for dinner?”
Mm-hmm.
Unbelievable.
“I am having lobster ravioli from Lion’s Mane. And there’s only enough for one.”
He pulled out his Palm, put his attention and thumbs to it, then tucked it back in his pocket and said, “In fifteen minutes, there’ll be enough for two.”
This farging male.
I’m falling in love with you.
Godsdammit.
I’m falling in love with you.
Damn it!
“I’ll open the wine,” he said, then went to my glassed-in wine closet like he personally paid the marks to own this flat.
I’m falling in love with you.
Damn it.
He was right.
