No woman should have their worth tied to a man. That’s why I supported Blair so much when she went to talk to Paolo. And that’s why I’ll go on these two last dates with Zola.
It’s the least I can do considering what opportunities might arise for me.
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
Lachlan
“For the record, Tink, I’m trying my damnedest to respect your job and keep my distance, but when you’re two floors below me, your dirty mouth and my hand on my cock isn’t doing it for me anymore.”
These phone calls are the best and worst kind of torture.
“I know.” Her laugh is sultry.
“How’d the meeting go?”
“Good. Par for the course. Monica made more demands and I wondered how in the hell I’m going to stay under budget while trying to fulfill them. But then I think, Tori is performing for free. Like . . . Monica did that. So why can’t I make at least a few of those demands come to fruition for her?” She groans in frustration. “Then there’s the Paolo angle and his side-eye glances every time I try to get his approval to fulfill one of these requests. Like if I say yes to caviar, Monica’s going to give you a contract, when she doesn’t even know we’re together in the first place. It just feels like one convoluted misstep of misunderstanding away from devolving into total anarchy and that’s never a good feeling.”
“You and I know that it’s going to be flawless and incredible.”
“I appreciate the thought.” She clears her throat. “But—ugh. Not again.”
“What?” I ask.
“Someone’s at my door. I think it’s Rossi.”
“What do you mean not again?”
“I mean he’s drunk, and this is the fourth time he’s—”
“Keep me on the line,” I order and am already throwing on my sweats and a shirt to head down to her room. So much for some phone sex.
I’ll take care of this shit real quick. Then we’ll get back to the regularly scheduled program.
“Oliver,” she says through the phone. “I can’t do this.”
“I just wanna talk,” my teammate slurs.
I’m already in the stairwell going down the first flight.
“No, you don’t. You want to fight and we’re past fighting.”
“But you’re my Blair and now you’re not and—”
Down the second flight.
“Please. Stop. You’re making this harder than it needs to be.”
“I love you. Don’t you know that?”
“You love me and yet you’re sleeping with God knows who every time you call me.”
I’m pushing open the door and I can see him standing in the hallway blocking her door. Their voices are now in my ear and floating in the hall around me.
“Rossi,” I shout down the hallway. Both of them give me a double take as I jog toward them.
“What are you doing here?” he says slowly, his eyes blinking and bloodshot.
“It’s our hotel. Why wouldn’t I be here?”
