“Because that’s terrifying.”

“You’re not afraid of anything.”

“Planes. Budgets. West.”

“Crunchy peanut butter,” I added.

“Pickleball.”

I laughed. “You’re so dumb sometimes.”

“I thought you loved me.”

Despite saying it just a minute ago, my stomach flipped. Squeezing his leg, I swallowed.

“Yeah, I think I do.”

“You think?”

“Just shut up and stop interrogating me.”

He chuckled, and a moment later, his music started blaring through the speakers.

“Oh.” He pressed his lips behind my ear, then ran his tongue over my skin. “I think I love you, by the way. I might have forgotten to say that.”

Gripping his thigh, I drew in a breath that felt different than the rest. “Well, I think you’re sort of rushing into things. You might scare me away.”

He bit down on my neck hard enough to make me jerk the wheel. I swore and focused on the road.

“Do you want me to get us there in one piece?” I asked.

“Maybe. Speaking of One Piece—”

“No,” I interrupted. “There are way too many episodes.”

“So, you don’t actually love me.”

God, he was going to be the death of me. I knew I would cave eventually, but for now, I wasn’t agreeing to any of his demands. Then again, this man was willing to move across the country for me. Maybe I could watch an absurdly long anime to make him happy.

Who was I kidding? I’d do anything to make him happy.
