I nodded. “With at least one girl, but who knows, there’s probably more.”
“I wouldn’t give him the time of day either.” Her eyebrows shot up. “How could he do that to you?”
“I asked myself that at least a million times.”
“Did you break up with him when you found out?” she asked.
I took a deep breath. “No, I knew how important the games were to him and his team. I didn’t want him to be distracted.”
Elena’s mouth fell open. “Distraction my foot. He deserved it. Plus, wasn’t he already distracted?” She paused. “So, you held it together through all the games for him?”
“Yeah, the few times he called, I pretended everything was fine. I told him how proud I was and wished him luck.”
She cringed. “You’re an angel.”
I smirked. “I don’t think so, I just did what I had to.”
“So, what did you say when you dumped him?”
“That was the worst day of my life. Colin said he’d come straight to my apartment when he got in but decided to stop at a few parties celebrating the games before. I waited up for him until four in the morning when he knocked on my door acting like nothing was wrong. I was infuriated. I knew he didn’t care about me like he used to, but I’d never expected how heartless he could be. I was devastated. I told him he broke my heart and that I was done.”
“Did he know why?”
I shook my head. “He had the audacity to act innocent, like he had done nothing wrong.”
She looked away for a moment before facing me again. “Are you positive he cheated? It wasn’t just rumors?”
I blew out a breath. “There were photographs and videos.”
“Huh. Can’t deny that.”
“Nope.”
She squeezed my hand and stood. “Well, we’re going to have a great week and we’ll make sure you and that idiot don’t run into each other again.”
“Sounds good to me.”
“But just so we’re clear, all those guys he’s with…those are hockey players?”
I looked at her and rolled my eyes. “The Utah Fury.”
She nodded once. “You followed his career?”
I didn’t want to admit it, but after everything I told her, this was nothing. “I just wanted to make sure his mistake was worth it.”
“And?”
“He got drafted after the Olympics. He’s a star on the Fury team. Looks like he got everything he wanted.”
“Except you.”
She’d mumbled it, but I still caught her words. I didn’t want to ask why she thought he wanted me. She might have a romantic vision of him missing me, but she was wrong.
When we got back to our room, the girls were laying around watching a movie. Elena dropped on one of the beds and laughed. “What happened to your crazy, wild night?”
Amber groaned. “We’re old and jet lagged.”
“We’re only two hours ahead.”
