Hearing them arguing about it was making me sick.

“We’ll figure something out,” I said. “I don’t want Colin to leave the team, so don’t worry about that.”

Colby tilted her head. “But you have a great job. You don’t want to leave that, do you?”

I shook my head. “I really don’t want to have to start over somewhere, but I have less to lose.”

There was a knock on the door and Kendall popped up to answer it. She walked back carrying a tray of cakes. “Geez, who ordered this?” She set them down on the table between us and looked around.

They all pointed at Emma and she just shrugged and started cutting the red velvet cake.

“Lucy, what’s the company you work for?” Chloe asked, ignoring Emma’s offered plate.

“Acreme.”

She nodded and pulled out her phone. Colby reached over to the table and cut into the chocolate cake before offering me a slice. “It’s flourless.”

“Thanks.” I took a small bite and moaned. It was just what I needed.

“You’re a project manager, right?”

I looked up and nodded. What was Chloe doing?”

“There’s an opening in the Lehi location. That’s just south of Salt Lake.”

I sat up. “How far south?”

“Maybe twenty minutes.” Madeline clarified.

I looked around the group and we seemed to all have the same idea at the same time. “I could move there.”

Chloe nodded. “You can at least apply for it.”

Excitement coursed through my body. This was it. This could be the solution. I wouldn’t be working on the same projects, but it might be fun to change things up. It’s not like I was leaving anything else. No close friends.

Just my dad. He wouldn’t leave the house though. He had his golf buddies. Maybe I could convince him to move eventually.

“I’ll email my manager.” I jumped up and moved to the nightstand where my phone was waiting for me. One email could change everything.

I explained the situation and requested the transfer. Hopefully, she’d reply in the morning. “Done.”

The girls cheered and Chloe stood up, giving me a hug. “You won’t regret this.”

I closed my eyes and decided to believe her.

Today was the end. We would be heading to the airport in just a few hours, and it would be time to say goodbye. The thought was enough to make me feel sick. I didn’t know how I would be able to go through with it.

But I would change things. I’d be forever grateful I had friends that convinced me to take a chance and tell Colin the truth. They changed my life.

I sat up and looked around. Kendall and Colby were still sleeping. I slipped out of bed and pulled on clothes before quietly letting myself out. I wanted to find Colin and spend every remaining second together that we could.

All of their rooms were on the same floor, so I headed down to the room Colin was sharing with Grant. I was just around the corner when I heard voices. I stopped and listened when I recognized Colin’s.

“So, I need to talk to Coach first?”

“That’s where I’d start, but are you sure you want to do this?” I was pretty sure that was Wyatt’s voice.
