Liam hit his friend in the shoulder. “Way to make things awkward fast.”
Elijah didn’t seem to mind. “Sorry, I’m not used to meeting beautiful girls on the street like this.”
Sophia shook her head, and I had a feeling I was going to have to make this up to her eventually.
“Are you both actors?” I tried to change the subject and salvage this meeting.
Elijah smirked. “Just this guy. I’m more of a behind-the-scenes kind of person.”
It was the perfect opportunity for Sophia to say something insulting but I was proud of her for letting it slide. Although, I did notice she was biting her lip.
“So you write, or do you…”
“I direct.”
My eyebrows shot up. “How interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever met a director.”
Liam spoke before Elijah could. “He’s an assistant right now. Freshmen don’t get to direct their own production until their junior year.”
Sophia laughed but quickly covered it up.
Poor Elijah. He seemed to be wanting to impress us but was seriously failing.
“So, what have you guys done already?” Liam smoothly changed subjects.
I ignored Elijah and met Liam’s eyes. “We just got in last night, so just getting cookie dough, seeing Washington Square, and lunch.”
“How long are you guys here?” Elijah asked.
“We fly out on Saturday afternoon,” Sophia replied.
“Wow. That’s a nice long trip.” Liam held my gaze. Not long enough.
“Yeah,” Sophia answered again when I didn’t.
Crap. I really needed to pull myself together. At the rate things were going they would be walking away or falling asleep from boredom within another minute.
“What would you guys recommend seeing while we’re here?” Finally, a cohesive thought.
“Are you guys into museums?” Liam asked.
I nodded and Sophia lit up. “Definitely.”
“Sophia’s an artist so I’m sure she’s dying to go to a few art museums.”
“Then you definitely need to go to the Met, the MOMA, or the Guggenheim,” he told her.
“I’d love to see as many as we can.” Sophia looked like she was ready to go right now.
Elijah didn’t seem to like being ignored. “Have you guys been here before?”
“I have.” Sophia smiled then gestured toward me. “April hadn’t been since she was little though.”
Elijah narrowed his eyes while listing places. “Then you have to see the staples. There’s the Statue of Liberty, the nine-eleven memorial, the Empire State Building, and Central Park.”
I smiled politely but wanted to roll my eyes. Obviously, we were going to see those. Even I got those from my quick internet search of the top places to go.
“What about places that are a little less popular? Things locals do?” I asked.
