He grabbed Sophia’s hand and led them in the opposite direction.
“Should I be offended he left so quickly?”
Liam shook his head. “Nope. He can only handle so much culture in a day, and if we want him to survive the Met later, he needs to go watch a football game or something to balance it out.”
“Poor Sophia.” The idea of shopping or watching a game instead of seeing historical landmarks made me cringe.
“Something tells me she doesn’t mind at all.”
He was probably right. She hadn’t come out and said it, yet, but I had a suspicion she liked Eli.
We only spent thirty minutes in the Morgan house. The old money was evident from the moment we crossed the street.
“This was the family’s home?”
He opened the door for me. “Yeah. They made modifications but this was their house.” He pointed to the left. “The library was built later and donated to the arts.”
The wealth and opulence were more than I ever experienced, and this was from the early nineteen hundreds. Their net worth in today’s market was mind boggling.
“This way.” Liam led us past several rooms to the staircase tucked in the back right corner. We entered what felt like a vault and stepped into another world. Old world Rome. The room was so grand. It looked like it belonged on the set of a Hollywood movie. The ceiling was covered in beautiful murals, each of the four sides a unique image.
“This way to the library.” He led us to the left and we entered a three-story masterpiece.
Belle’s castle had nothing on this place.
The dark wood and rich carpet made me feel like I was in a royal palace.
“Take a look around.” Liam tilted his head up as if giving me permission.
I started with a bookshelf near me, and gasped. “This Bible is from the sixteenth century!”
He stood next to me and smiled. “I knew you’d appreciate this place as much as I do.”
We wandered around the room, slowly taking in the beauty. Eli would have complained the entire time, ruining the experience. Thankfully, Liam knew that.
“Thank you.”
He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me in. After a quick peck on my forehead, he whispered against my hair, “You’re welcome.”
After we soaked in the library and Mr. Morgan’s study, we left to find the other half of our group.
Eli and Sophia were standing at the street corner. When he saw us, he pumped a fist in the air. “Yes! You owe me five bucks.”
He smirked at Sophia while she glared back at him.
“What’s going on?”
Sophia shoved his shoulder. “He told me he had a feeling you guys were about to walk out so he called a car. I told him we should wait, but he said he knew.”
“And I did! I could feel it, ya know?”
Liam shook his head. “No.”
“Whatever.” He checked his phone and looked back to the street. After another few seconds he waved his arm and a silver sedan pulled to a stop in front of us.
We all got in and the driver headed north.
“Couldn’t we have just walked?” I checked on my phone earlier and the Central Park wasn’t that far from our hotel, and we only walked about fifteen minutes to the libraries.
