I hurried around the path to Fifth Avenue and stared. The Metropolitan Museum of Art with the gorgeous columns and iconic stairs.

“Wow.” I let out a gasp.

“The best parts are inside,” Liam whispered as he passed me, tugging on my hand.

He was right. We walked through each room at a leisurely pace, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and surprises that were at every turn. He showed me more Monet’s and Van Gogh’s self-portrait, and I was certain then that I’d never top this day.

Hours passed as we roamed through the collections and ate lunch at the cafe.

“It’s time for the surprise,” he told me after we all agreed we were done.

“This is the best part.” Eli grinned.

Sophia shot me a look but I didn’t know what was going on either.

“This way.” Liam led us to the back of the museum to an elevator. After nodding to a security guard like he was in on a secret, we were allowed through a doorway and stepped out onto the roof.

We were above the trees of central park.

“Oh!” I didn’t know this existed. There wasn’t much of a crowd up here, which shocked me as I walked along the short wall, taking in the sights from a new angle.

The rooftop was the best view of the city. It beat Top of the Rock for me. I loved seeing the park and the city beyond.

But it was the sunset that certainly stole the show.

“This is amazing,” I told Liam. “Thank you for bringing up here.”

He smiled down at me, holding my gaze until I could feel the moment building up.

“Smile!” Sophia appeared with her phone ready and took our picture before I was ready. I laughed and turned back to the view. She was everywhere taking dozens of pictures from every side of the roof.

Liam finished taking a picture for the family next to us and stood behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

“This was the perfect day,” I told him.

He rested his chin on my shoulder. “Almost perfect.”

I turned to face him, still between his arms. “Almost?”

He nodded once.

“How could it get any better?”

Instead of responding, he tilted his head down and gently, slowly pressed his lips to mine.

I gasped at his touch. He was finally kissing me.

I pressed my body into his and responded. His hands moved from my waist, to my back, to my hair, and finally stopped at my face. His thumb grazed over my cheek, making my heart flutter.

He pulled back, his chest expanding against mine.

“Now.”

“Now?” I asked breathlessly.

“Now it’s perfect.”

It was. How could I leave?
