“Can you talk to him? Maybe find out what he wants? We can call my mom and tell her to come back if it’s really important.”

“I’ll try.” She smiled and left.

I returned to the orders and had another one finished when she opened the door again.

“Ugh! I’m not going to do it am I?”

She laughed. “Nope. It’s not meant to happen today.”

“Did the customer leave?”

She shook her head. “No, he said he would really like to talk to your mom.”

Dang. I set the flowers down and wiped my hands again. “I’ll try talking to him.”

She swung the door open and followed me out. There was only one man in the room so I walked toward him. He was looking at one of the window displays with his back to me

“Hi, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but the owner isn’t here right now. Is there something I could help you with?”

He turned and my heart, brain, lungs, time…everything stopped.

“Liam?”

It was really him. In-person. Here. In Oregon. In my mom’s shop.

He smiled as he took me in and I realized in a flash of embarrassment that I looked like a disaster.

“Hi, April.” He took a step forward and it was enough for me to come back to the present. I rushed to him and threw my arms around him. He caught me and swept me up in a hug. He held me tight to his chest, just swaying with my feet barely touching the ground.

“You’re here.”

He nodded against my hair and I felt him kiss the top of my head. My very sweaty, possibly leaf-covered head.

I held onto him until I heard a throat clear behind me. Ugh, Sky. She could wait a few more seconds.

I stepped back and smiled at him. “What are you doing here?” I was still in shock. Why didn’t he tell me he was coming?

He looked over my shoulder and smiled. I turned to see Skylar smile back before spinning on her heel and going to the back room.

“I stayed up all night thinking about what you told me.”

He flew across the continent to break up with me? My excitement turned to nerves.

“It took me a while to accept it.” He laughed. This was a good sign…right? “I went through your MyPage account. You were right. Your necklace was clear in every picture, including one of you and Sophia ordering your cookie dough. Every picture after that it’s red.”

I smiled. He believed me.

“I called my mom in the middle of the night and told her everything.”

I couldn’t stop the cringe. He placed his hands on my cheeks and forced me to look at him. “She told me to stop being an idiot. She also said there are plenty of things in the world we may not understand, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t real or true.”

His mom sounded like someone I’d like.

“She also told me that if I met a girl I was invested enough in to call her in the middle of the night over, I better go after her.”

Yeah. I definitely wanted to meet this woman.

“So, I bought a ticket and I came after you.”
