“Shawn Bennet?” he asked, and I nodded. “From the basketball team?”

“He has three extra rooms since Kenneth’s recruitment, so I usually end up there. We watch movies or whatever game is on and hang out.”

He relaxed his shoulders. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“You didn’t ask.”

“Yes, we did. Haley and I have asked you where you’ve been.”

“And I told you, I’ve been studying. You know how bad my grades are. Every moment I’m not in class, practice, or at a game, I’m studying.”

Reid rubbed his face.

“I didn’t think you even noticed or cared where I was. You and Haley hang out most nights anyway, so I figured staying over at Shawn’s was better for everyone.”

“It started before Haley and I were dating.”

Holy crap. When did this turn into an investigation or trial?

I nearly threw my hands in the air. “I’m allowed to have other best friends, man. Is that what this is about? I don’t only hang out with the team, and you’re jealous.”

He shot me a look that was meant to intimidate, but I didn’t care.

“So you’re not drinking?”

“No.”

“Then whose are these?” He stared past me to the desk where the bottles were lined up.

I turned in my seat to see. “Where did you find them?”

“The back of your closet.”

“What were you doing in the back of my closet?”

He pointed over his shoulder. “I couldn’t find my green button-up you like to borrow, so I was checking if it was there.”

I stood and went to the drawers under my bed and pulled open the top one. “Here.”

He grabbed his shirt. “Thanks.”

“So, four opened bottles.” I stared at them before facing him. “I don’t remember them being there when we moved in.”

“Me either, so someone hid them in here.”

“Who?” I asked.

“I have no idea.”

“There’s really only one option.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “Someone that’s been in our room hid them in here. They planted it, hoping we’d get caught.”

Reid’s brows pulled together. “What? Why would you think that?”

I shrugged. “It’s the only other thing that makes sense.”

“Why would anyone want us to get caught?” He sat on his chair with his elbows resting on his knees. A long strand of hair fell forward, grazing his cheekbones.

“It could be a prank, but anyone that knows our rules wouldn’t do that. They know how severe the punishment would be.”
