He nodded. “That’s a good idea. It can be a hot topic post.”

He looked back down at the computer and remained quiet for a few minutes. “There. I’ve posted it on mine and sent it out to people. We’ll check back later and see how it’s doing.”

I fell back against the couch and sighed. “I hope it keeps people safe.”

“You’re doing all you can, Mac. I’m really impressed how you’ve gone after this.”

“It’s been the first things to really hit home with me. I think it reminds me of what happened in high school.”

“With Aubrey?”

I nodded. “I still remember the stress and helplessness. I don’t want anyone else to go through that, but there’s already been three.”

“You’re doing what you can.”

“Thanks for your help, Jay.”

His smile was so genuine, I couldn’t help but return it.

“I’d do anything for you. I hope you know that by now.”

“I do.”

We watched each other for a moment before he turned and cleaned up our mess. “Are you hungry?”

I followed his lead of pretending we didn’t just have a moment and began listing places we could get.

“A burger sounds good.”

“Okay, I’ll see if Aubrey wants anything, then I’ll call it in.”

I stood and knocked on her door. She opened it wearing sweats and her hair was wet from the shower. “I’m going to order dinner from Tommy’s Burgers and go pick it up. Do you want anything?”

“I shouldn’t.”

I opened my mouth, but she interrupted me.

“But I’m starving. Could you order me a burger lettuce wrap and another cheese burger and small fries for Carter? Don’t worry about picking it up. I’ll let him know and he can grab it on his way.”

“Sounds good.”

I turned and picked my phone up from the table. While I searched for their number, Jay turned toward me. “Carter’s coming?”

I rolled my eyes and hit dial.

“Yes, your boyfriend is coming.”

His smile grew. If I didn’t love how well they got along, I would be jealous. He rarely got that excited to see me.

I placed our order and texted Carter that it would be ready in ten minutes.

“Do you want to watch a movie, or is there a game on?”

Jay picked up the remote and quickly scanned the channels. Of course, there was some important basketball game on, so there went my dreams of watching something other than men chasing a ball.

I went to my bathroom and picked out a sheer pink nail polish. If I was going to be bored, I might as well be productive.

My second coat was drying when the front door opened, and Carter walked in carrying two bags of delicious smelling take out.
