“The site has hadover ten thousand views!” I wasn’t quite awake when I answered the phone, but Jay’s excitement changes that.

“Are you serious?” I jumped out of my bed and ran into the living room for my laptop.

“Yeah, I just checked. I’m trying to track how many shares we’ve had, but it went crazy. The initial group that we sent it to totals over two thousand shares, so it had to have spread like crazy from there.”

“Jay, that’s amazing!”

“The best part is that there hasn’t been another attack. I know it’s only been a few days since the last one, but I’m hoping this keeps people safe.”

The page finally loaded with the blog’s statistics. It was up to almost eleven thousand now.

“If people just use the buddy system until the creep is caught, they should be fine!”

I’ve been saying that in my articles, but hopefully people will finally listen.

“Give it a few more hours and the whole school will have seen this. Great job, Mac.”

His encouragement made me smile. “You helped so much, so you deserve a good job as well.”

He laughed, and I could picture him shaking his head like he usually did around me.

“Are you coming to the lab today?”

I blew out a breath and thought about my schedule. “I wasn’t planning on it, but if you need me to, I can.”

“No, just focus on your classes today. If you need anything, just let me know.”

“Thanks, Jay.”

I wandered back into my room in a daze. The blog had taken off better than I could have ever imagined. Hopefully, people stayed safe long enough for the police to arrest the right person.

I madeit through my classes without needing to check on the blog. Jay sent me hourly updates, and as of the last one, we were at over fifteen thousand views. The campus only had sixteen thousand students. Our hopes were that by the end of the day, everyone would have either seen or heard about the blog and were taking the advice I gave.

Jay had classes all afternoon, so I decided to head back to my apartment. If I finished all of my homework early, I would even have time to spoil myself with a bath and book. That was all the motivation I needed.

Aubrey was gone when I walked through the door which wasn’t all that surprising. She’d barely been home in the past two weeks, and I knew it would only get worse the closer it got to her show. Only one week left before she could relax.

Even though I knew she was exhausted, I was glad she wasn’t around very much. It reduced the risk of me slipping and telling her anything about the ring or Carter or Tiffany or the proposal. No. It was definitely a good thing she wasn’t around.

She was too distracted to even notice Carter and I had disappeared together. Under normal circumstances, she would have known my plans for the day and known when Carter would be free from work. Luckily, she was too busy to make any connection.

Maybe Carter had known this and used it to his advantage. Knowing him, he had her full scheduled memorized and figured out the perfect opportunity to slip by without her noticing.

I’d have to commend him next time I saw him.

After heating up a healthy bowl of ramen noodles like the sad college student I was, I got comfortable on the couch.

Daytime television might not offer much in the way of variety, but I’d learned a few years ago to embrace the daily soap operas rather than complain that nothing was on.

If you can’t beat them, join them.

I turned on my favorite and immersed myself in the drama while eating my lunch.

Three hours later, I finally finished my homework. Part of me just wanted a nap, but a bath was even more tempting.

I left my textbooks on the coffee table and went into my bedroom to grab my book before heading into my bathroom. I turned on the water and debated between two bath bombs before deciding on a vanilla honey one.
