I shook my head, suddenly feeling off.

“You didn’t do the dishes?” She shook her head. “Or move my computer?” She continued shaking. “Or move the table?”

She laughed. “No. I didn’t do any of that. I think someone is pulling a prank on you.”

I smiled, but didn’t think that was what was going on. The only other person it could have been was Carter, and he wasn’t the type. A small prank sure, but not random small things. These were small enough for me to blow them off, but in the back of my mind, things were starting to seem off.

As much as it was bothering me, I didn’t want to make Aubrey nervous. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe I was just spacing. Maybe this wasn’t a big deal.

Maybe this was the beginning of something worse.

That was the thought I kept coming back to.

What if?

What if he could get to me?

Before panic could take over, I excused myself and shut myself in my room. If I was going to freak out I didn’t want Aubrey to see. I could be strong. I could be smarter than whoever was doing this.

I could be strong, but I didn’t have to be alone.

Without hesitating I picked up my phone and called Jay.

“Hey, Mac.”

“Hi, Jay.”

There was a pause when I realized I had no idea what to say to him. Our table was moved? Someone put away our dishes?

Yeah. I was crazy.

“What’s up?”

“I …um …” Dang it. Saying it out load made me seem insane.

“Mac, come on. What’s going on?” I could hear the tension in his voice. I was worrying him.

“Jay. Some weird things have been going on today.”

“Where are you now?”

“Home.”

“Do you want me to come over?”

I let out a sigh. He knew. He always knew what I needed without me saying it.

“Please.”

“Okay, I’m leaving the lab now so I’ll be over in just a second.”

“Thank you.”

“Course.”

He hung up and I paced my room debating with myself on how to bring this up. Suddenly a thought came to me. What if there was more? What if other things were off, and I just hadn’t noticed yet?

Slowly, I looked around my room, scanning carefully from the floor to ceiling, looking for anything even slightly out of place.
