There was a long pause.
“Really? You would do that?”
Her shock was almost offensive, then I realized she didn’t know me, so it wasn’t like she was judging me.
“Yeah, no problem. Just let me know when, and I’ll make it work.”
“Thank you so much! I’ll text you later.”
I hung up feeling pretty good about myself. Maybe this could count as my community service instead.
“Was that your partner?” Ethan asked.
“Yeah, she’s struggling with some of the comms classes.”
“Programming and psych?” Benjamin asked while focusing on his player. “Those are no joke, but if she gets through the first few weeks, she’ll be fine.”
Right, it wouldn’t take much to help her, and I had a feeling it would make a huge difference to her. Look at me, being a hero to someone in need. Hopefully, she was one of the hot ones.
Chapter 7
Presley
I might have made a huge mistake.
The distraction of my study group then rushing to sort things with my project partner left my brain a little foggy, and I forgot one key bit of information.
His name.
I didn’t recognize his voice on the phone, but that wasn’t saying much. Karly let us know that only seniors from the team were paired with us, which meant I had a one in four chance of this ending in disaster. Not the best odds.
But whoever I talked to on the phone had been patient and kind enough to offer to help me with my classes. That didn’t seem like Hunter Shaw in the slightest, so I had a feeling it was one of his three friends.
I could handle any of them, especially with the promise of catching me up on the classes that I was struggling with the most.
Yeah, that definitely wasn’t a Shaw thing to do. Not without something being in it for him.
I tapped my fingers on the desk, waiting for the mystery man to appear. I got to the library study room a few minutes early to claim a table and get my computer and notes ready, so all that was left to do was wait.
For someone to appear.
This was so awkward. It was like a blind date, at least what I imagined one feeling like. I’d never personally been on one. I had a low embarrassment tolerance, and meeting a stranger under the pressure of a dating situation? Yeah, no thanks. You couldn’t pay me to do that.
A group of students walked in together, and I scanned their faces for one I recognized. No luck.
Stragglers came in, in ones and twos, for the next few minutes as I started to realize I might be getting stood up.
Could you stand-up a study session? Apparently yes.
One more minute, then I was going to head back to the house and resume my struggle on my own.
I stared down at my watch, waiting for the minute to change, when I felt someone move in close to me.
“Are you waiting for me?”
I raised my eyes to see none other than Shaw staring down at me with his brows pulled together.
“No,” I immediately answered.
