“There’s a first time for everything,” she said as her lips curled into a teasing grin. “If you’re lucky.”

“I’m always lucky, Brenna. It’s my middle name.” The shocked look on her face was the last thing I saw as I stepped out of the car and jogged around to open her door. She beat me to it, once again.

“It is not!” She gave my shoulder a shove and I took advantage of her proximity and wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her body flush up against mine.

“It is. Grant Lucky Lopez.”

Her mouth dropped into a sexy, surprised ‘O’ and I couldn’t resist one little kiss, right there under the golden glow of the pizza place parking lot. Her lips were sweet and pliable, a hint of a cherry taste. “Is Lucky trying to get lucky?”

“I got you here with me, don’t I? I’m already lucky.”

She rolled her eyes. “Cheesy, but I’ll allow it because you’re just so cute.” Brenna turned away and I watched her hips swing left to right before I jogged to catch up with her.

“Cute? Puppies and kittens are cute. Child actors are cute. I’m handsome.”

She laughed again. “Too damn handsome, if you ask me.” Her phone buzzed inside her tiny purse and Brenna looked at the phone and dropped it back inside.

“Or, I’m just the right amount of handsome?”

“Let’s go with that, but only because we’re about to enjoy some of the best pizza in Texas. Allegedly.”

“Hold your judgment until you’ve eaten.”

Her phone buzzed again and she tapped the ignore button this time. “I’m not picky about toppings, but I do like bell peppers and spicy peppers on pizza.”

“I can do that. And meat? How do you feel about meat on pizza, Brenna?”

“Chicken and bacon?”

“Ground beef and bacon,” I shot back with a smile.

“Deal.” She held out a hand for a shake, and I pulled it close to brush a kiss across her knuckles. Her phone rang again and after a quick glance, Brenna groaned. “Sorry. I better answer it now or Jessie May will just keep calling.”

“I’ll go place our order.” I winked and stood, then turned to her with a smile. “It’s okay if you stare at my ass while I walk away. I’d do the same to you.”

She rolled her eyes, but the laugh she let out was throaty and sexy, enough to draw stares from two tables filled with appreciative men. “If you’re still here, I can’t stare, can I?”

Damn, this woman was hotter than lava, and my cock sprang to life once again as I walked away, thinking of pizza toppings to get my body under control. I stood behind a handsy older couple for a couple minutes before I placed our order and when I got back to the table, Brenna was still on the phone with her sister.

“That’s great news, Jessie May. I’m so happy for you, both of you.” Her twang was somehow thicker when she spoke to her sister. “Yeah, here he is.” She turned the phone towards me and I gave a wary wave.

“Hello, sister Jessie May. How’s it goin’?”

Jessie May gasped, studying me, which gave me plenty of time to notice the differences between the sisters. She was a blond too, but a natural dirty blond with light brown eyes and freckles on the bridge of her nose. Whereas Brenna looked like a country bombshell, her sister was the proverbial girl next door. “My, aren’t you a handsome devil!” She clapped her hands and threw her head back with a laugh. “You didn’t say he was that handsome, Bren!”

“Um, thanks?” I wasn’t shy about my looks, but it had been a long time since a woman was so blatant in her appreciation.

“Are you married, Grant?”

I blinked, stunned by her question. “No ma’am, I’m not.”

“Ever been married?”

“No, again.” I scratched my head trying to figure out where this conversation was going.

“Good. How about kids, do you have any?”

I looked to Brenna who just shrugged. “No. I don’t have any kids.”

Brenna laughed. “Don’t mind Jessie, she’s pregnant again and has babies on the brain.”

Oh. Good. My shoulders relaxed and I smiled at the woman staring back at me on the screen. “Congratulations on the new addition to your family.”

“Thanks. Good looking and he’s got good manners? This is definitely an improvement, Brenna. Definitely.”

Brenna groaned and snatched the phone from my hand. “You’ve seen him and grilled him, now it’s time for you to go.”

“But, I haven’t even asked-,”

“You shouldn’t have wasted your questions, smarty pants. Our pizza is here so, gotta go!” She waved with one hand, her thumb stretching to surreptitiously ending the call. “Sorry about that but it had to be done.”

“It did?”

She nodded. “Otherwise her curiosity would have her calling all night. Now she’s laid eyes on you and talked to you, that’s enough.”
