His declaration instilled new fear in her. He offered himself, utterly and completely, just as he accepted that she’d given herself to him. Had she? She didn’t want to think about it, not when he groaned and moved her up his body.

“I want you so badly,” he whispered against her ear. “I want you to straddle me so that I can watch your perfect body, but I have to feed you first.”

Her voice was husky, arousal already coursing through her veins. “Food can wait.”

Rolling her over, he pinned her beneath him and gave the mark in her neck a soft kiss. “I took your blood. You need to eat. Besides, we skipped dinner last night.”

Immediately, her lust spiked.

“I can feel your arousal,” he said in wonder, kissing the throbbing skin of her neck tenderly.

“Stop torturing me then.”

“Torture?” His smile was sardonic. “Payback time for the hard-on I had to live with since the day I met you.”

“You’re cruel.”

“I can’t let my woman accuse me of being cruel.” He pushed away from her and got to his feet. “Come here.”

She climbed from the bed. “I need the bathroom first.” Picking up her clothes and evening bag from the floor, she said, “I won’t be a minute.”

“No more than a minute. I won’t wait much longer,” he said behind her.

She had to plant the bug while she had the chance. Her heart ached as she closed the door behind her and leaned on the wood. Why did Tim have to be her enemy? Could the gods have had any more of a wicked sense of humor? She waited for Darren’s sarcastic remark, telling her there were no gods, nothing to believe in, but he was quiet this time. With a glance at the door, she took the magnetic bug from her evening bag and secured it to the back of the toilet pipe.

Chapter 11

“I know you’re useless in the kitchen,” Tim said in good humor, “so why don’t you let me fix breakfast and you set the table?”

Maya dropped the cheese she’d been grating and cursed. A red drop pooled on the tip of her finger where she’d nicked it.

He walked over and took her hand. “Let me see that.”

His eyes darkened as he studied the small wound. Could she ever get used to the idea of having a dhampir lover? She never grew accustomed to Joss’s habit of tasting blood. Her team leader didn’t need it like a vampire, but he could tell almost anything about a person by tasting a drop of blood. He’d once told her he only found tasting his wife, Clelia’s, blood erotic.

Tim took her finger into his mouth, wrapping his tongue around the digit. His eyes fluttered close, and his body shuddered. After another moment, he pulled her finger from his mouth and dried it on his shirt.

“You taste sweet,” he whispered in her ear.

When he looked back at her, his eyes were filled with passion. She was tender, but not so much that she didn’t want him again. He slipped a hand inside the robe he’d given her to wear, between her thighs, finding her wetness. As he curled his finger, delving inside, she leaned against the table to keep her balance.

“Maya.” He rested his forehead against hers, moving his finger in and out slowly. “You drive me insane.” With visible effort, he pulled away. “Food. You need to eat. Get away from me, or I’m going to bend you over the kitchen table.”

She kissed his neck, inhaling the clean fragrance of his skin. “Can you really feel when I get turned-on?”

“I can hear your heartbeat when it picks up. I can hear the blood coursing through your body, stiffening your nipples and your clit, and engorging your pussy. I can smell your feminine heat. Your pussy begs for my cock to be buried inside you, and your heart begs for my lips to drink the life force that pulses right here.” He pressed his finger on the vein that carried his bite marks.

She’d studied the two tiny dots in the bathroom mirror. They’d stay on her body forever. She loved them better than any tattoo. This was her souvenir of Tim, something no one could take away.

From the doorway, someone cleared his throat. She directed her attention toward the sound. Cesar enter the kitchen. Stopping, he lifted his head and sniffed the air.

“Good morning.” He grinned at Tim as he passed them on his way to the coffee machine.

“Breakfast?” Tim asked.

“With pleasure.” Cesar yawned and rubbed the back of his neck as he filled a mug with coffee. “Didn’t sleep much. I tested the house for bugs, as you asked. Every nook and cranny.”

Maya turned away so Cesar couldn’t see her face. She’d move the bug later to a more appropriate place.

Before Tim could reply, Frida popped her head around the frame. “Tim, call for you.”
