“You came,” she whispers after a few seconds, eyes still closed, like she’s drifting in and out of sleep.
Each time I set eyes on her, my heart leaps into my throat, rendering me speechless for a second.
“Shh …” I reply gently, my palm wandering from her hip to her stomach. “My aim wasn’t to wake you, but to watch you sleep.”
She smiles at that, but still doesn’t open her eyes. “If I didn’t know you well enough, I’d accuse you of being creepy.”
With my other hand, I gently tuck the strands of loose hair behind her ear, and I watch the way she swallows when I touch her like this.
“I swear to you, I’m okay. You don’t need to worry about me, Silas.”
“Can I ask you something?” I ignore her last statement. We both know I’ll always worry about her. It’s what caring boyfriends do.
She cracks an eye open, looking all suspicious. “You can ask … though I cannot always guarantee I’ll answer.”
I chuckle softly. “Brat.”
She lifts a shoulder and closes her eyes again. “Fire away.”
The last thing I want to do is bring Kane into the tender moment we’re sharing, but each time I step into her bedroom, the question enters my head, and tonight, I have to know.
When I don’t immediately begin talking, Vesper opens both eyes.
Fuck me, so stunning.
“Did you push your bed up against the wall because it makes you feel safer?”
I can see a thousand thoughts whirling in her brain as her brows pull together.
“The only time I can sleep is when I’m facing the door and everything around me.”
My heart was sitting in my throat a minute ago, and now it’s buried deep in the pit of my gut. “I know he did a lot to emotionally damage you, but did he physically hurt you too?” This isn’t the first time I’ve asked this question or she’s answered it. But, goddamn, I need to be absolutely sure she isn’t hiding anything else from me.
After a beat, she breathes out, “No,” and my lungs inflate again.
She places a warm palm over the hand I have caressing her stomach.
“Close your eyes for me, Ves.”
She doesn’t hesitate, and I take that as the massive compliment it is—the level of trust she places in me tells me that our love is going to overcome every struggle we might face.
I kiss her lips first, my mouth slowly descending her body until I’m halfway down the bed and facing her stomach.
“There is no other woman on this planet I would want to have a baby with, and in answer to your earlier question over text, I never believed in love at first sight before I met you.”
I peel her T-shirt up, and the soft flesh below her navel pebbles against my lips. She whimpers softly. She’s bare below her waist, and my mouth waters for her release.
“Where do you want my tongue?”
She doesn’t answer me with her words, but her actions, one small hand tangling in my hair as she guides my mouth lower.
Holy fuck, the scent of her arousal is my drug.
I set a chaste kiss against her pubic bone. “Do you want me to eat your pussy?”
Another whimper before she rolls onto her back and parts her thighs.
I move in between them, reaching up and grabbing a pillow from next to her head. “Lift your hips for me. I’m going to be down here a while, and I need you to be comfortable.”
