Chaos couldn’t disagree. But he shrugged. “They’re adults. We can’t interfere.”
“I wish Edge would’ve said something sooner. Asked her out. Then she’d still be here with us now, and so would he.”
“But he didn’t, and they aren’t.”
“Yeah.” Kara sighed and tightened her arms around his neck, plastering herself against him from hips to chest. They were barely swaying back and forth now, and it was taking all Chaos’s control not to kiss her the way he’d been dreaming about all night.
“Arrow?”
“Yeah?”
“Take me to bed or lose me forever.”
He chuckled. “Are you trying to quote Top Gun to me?”
“Well, it’s a pilot movie.”
“Not quite the same thing.”
“Whatever.”
“And I’m not losing you. No fucking way. I know what I’ve got. A classy, beautiful, talented woman who could do so much better than me. If you’re ready, we’ll say our goodbyes and I’ll take you home and show you how much I love you.”
She sighed. “I love hearing those words from your lips.”
“Get used to it, because now that the door’s been opened, I plan on reminding you of my love every day for the rest of our lives.”
“Promise?”
“Yes.”
She pulled out of his grasp and reached for his hand, dragging him over to where Obi-Wan and Zita were dancing.
“We’re headed out. Love you.” She hugged Zita, then moved toward Penny and Pyro. She repeated the quick and affectionate statement, adding, “Happy wedding day,” before moving on to the next couple.
Chaos had a goofy smile on his face but didn’t care. He did his best to keep Kara between him and his friends, so the erection tenting his pants wasn’t quite so obvious. He gave his friends an amused chin lift, getting one in return each time.
By the time Kara finished saying her goodbyes, Chaos was almost walking bowlegged. She was weaving slightly as she walked, on account of the number of drinks she’d consumed. She wasn’t slurring her words though, so Chaos knew she wasn’t completely blotto. He’d been giving her glasses of water all night, to try to counteract some of the alcohol.
He also wasn’t so lost in lust that he wasn’t completely aware of their surroundings when they left the bar. Even though the parking lot was now well lit, he didn’t take Kara’s safety for granted.
Especially not when his sixth sense was making itself known in the back of his mind.
She surprised him by leaning in when they got to his SUV and kissing the hell out of him. Chaos returned the passionate embrace eagerly. But he managed to pull himself away after a minute or so and get her into the car.
“Don’t fall asleep on me,” he warned, when they were on their way back to his house. Kara had a half smile on her face and her eyes were closed as he drove through the dark streets.
She eventually turned her head and looked at him, and the heat in her gaze almost scorched him.
“Not a chance,” she drawled. “I’ve got plans for you, buster.”
Chaos grinned. “Yeah?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Care to share?”
“Nope. But you’ll find out soon enough.”
