She grinned. “I just like you. You’re great, Sawyer. I don’t really know what you want from me or where this is going, but I’ve had the best time with you.”
“Me too, babe.”
I paused. I’d considered suggesting we spend some time apart. I wanted to spend all my non-flying time with her but was afraid I’d somehow fuck up whatever we had going on.
Over the past week, I realized that I was capable of being in a relationship. I wanted to be there for someone and have someone miss me when I was gone. Someone who cared about me. I could make this work. I wanted Sol.
“Look, Sol. What I said the other night when Joy took that picture—”
Her beautiful face fell. “Oh, no worries. I get it. We were just in the moment.”
I shook my head. “No. It’s not that at all. I meant it. This is serious for me. It’s not a fling. I really want to make this work.”
She leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. “Me too. I know it can. I’m kind of obsessed with you. It’s unhealthy really. If you had an Instagram account, I’d be stalking you.”
I laughed. “Well, good thing I don’t. I know that’s your life, but I still don’t give a shit about that stuff. I don’t want people to worship me for what I look like, just for what I do.”
She pursed her lips. I didn’t want to hurt her feelings, but that was how I felt. I also believed Sol had so much more to offer the world than what she posted on social media. Maybe I could help her discover her true passion.
“So, should I buy a plane ticket back to San Francisco? I totally understand if you need to just unwind alone back at your place in Pensacola.”
I reached over and grabbed her hand. “No, babe. I don’t want to be alone. I want you to come to Pensacola with me.”
She beamed. “I thought you’d never ask.”
