Liam took her hand and kissed her palm. “You’re tense, and I fear your mind has gone off and left me here.”

She offered a strained smile and a small nod. “I’m sorry.”

“I expected it wouldn’t be easy for us at first. The act is sure to conjure memories that I’d rather not be between us. But I’ll not blame you for it.”

“I trust you. I don’t want to be afraid any longer. Please don’t give up on me.”

He brushed the back of his hand over her cheek. “Never. Now that I know there’s something between us to hold on to, we’ll make this something for just us. Keep your eyes on mine so you know it’s me who holds you.”

She nodded in agreement. As long as it was Liam, she could continue. She wanted to continue. Her lower body fluttered in a delicious feeling.

He reached for her shift and lifted it over her head. She fought the urge to cover herself but gave up, knowing it wasn’t necessary. Not with Liam. Not like this. He’d seen much of her already. Now he could see everything, and she didn’t mind.

He smiled as he looked her up and down. “I’ve never looked on a naked woman before,” he confessed, his cheeks turning pink.

She didn’t need to know the reason he hadn’t. She knew he wasn’t a virgin.

“So beautiful,” he said as he went to his knees before her. From his position he was not as intimidating. Even when he guided her closer and pressed kisses to her breasts and then moved lower.

She nearly collapsed when his mouth touched her upper thigh. He took advantage of her swaying to bring her down beside him. He caressed her until she opened for him, never pushing or demanding. He kissed her intimately as she watched. This was Liam. This was good.

No, it was magnificent, especially when he used his mouth and fingers on her. She cried out his name, unsure if she would be able to hold on.

When he told her to let go, she gave in and allowed the incredible feeling to rise up and wash over her. She thought she might melt away, but he gathered her to him. Keeping her close, he kissed her temple and then her lips. He tasted different than he had before, and she realized it was herself she tasted on his lips.

“Was it good?” he asked, watching her as she attempted to blink him into focus. Everything seemed so hazy and wonderful.

“Beyond good.”

He smiled and she allowed him the smug tilt of his lips. He’d earned the right.

She wouldn’t have thought it possible that she would feel unfulfilled so quickly after the satisfaction he’d given her, but after a few breathtaking kisses, she wanted more. She told him so and he nodded.

Instead of coming over her, he rolled on his back, and she straddled his hips. His manhood came to settle between her thighs, brushing her heat.

“I’m not sure—”

“I’ve not done it this way before, either, but let’s try it. I can look on you and you can control our joining when you feel you’re ready.”

She felt tears sting her eyes again, though they were happy tears. This man, large and powerful as he was, had the softest, kindest heart to think of a way to accommodate her needs.

“I’m a very fortunate wife,” she said and earned another adorable blush from her husband. He glanced away but she placed a hand on his cheek and turned him back to her. “Keep your eyes on mine so you know who holds you,” she repeated his earlier words.

He offered a grin and pulled her down for a kiss. The movement changed their position so he was poised perfectly to enter her. She expected him to thrust up, but he didn’t. He stayed where he was and allowed her to slide down his length. She expected pain, but there was none. Her body—now slick with need—welcomed him in the most enjoyable way.

A moan of pleasure escaped her lips.

His eyes squeezed shut for just a moment as he moaned, too. Then they opened and he gazed at her patiently, the normal icy blue of his eyes now darker and warmer. His fingers lightly stroked her ribs and down her hips.

Once she was fully settled on him, she used her legs to rise and lower, much like riding a horse. Though the way he filled her was exquisite. She found herself moving more quickly.

Liam stilled her movements and watched her. “I don’t want it to end.”

She nodded. She didn’t want it to end, either.

Chapter Nineteen

Liam stared up at his naked wife, with sunshine streaming through her gold-red hair. She looked like a goddess on the hunt for something only he could give her.
