“Talk to me, Darcy. What’s going on?”

“I just got a call from Kai, Reverend Kama’s secretary. His mother died suddenly last night, so he can’t marry us anymore. Poor guy,” I mutter.

“Oh, shit! Really?” All I can do is nod, my heart heavy. “And she doesn’t know of anyone else, though she did say she’d email me details of the Health Department, who may be able to help us.”

I can see he’s deep in thought, then he says, “Good, forward them to me as soon as you get them. Don’t worry, sweetheart. Nothing’s going to stop me from marrying you. Leave it with me, and I’ll figure it out. I have friends in low places.”

“But what if you can’t?” I laugh, suddenly aware I’m bordering on hysteria. “The whole thing is doomed now. We haven’t got anyone to marry us, Lennon. Without a minister, there’s no wedding.”

“Calm down, babe. It’ll be okay,” he says. “Keep checking your phone and send the email to me as soon as you can. Call her back, if it doesn’t come through, soon. Just give me time to fix this. Don’t stress yourself out. I promise I’ll sort it out.”

I nod and take a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. My anxiety levels are at an all-time high and I hate feeling like this. It’s just not me.

“How about we do something tonight? Just you and me,” he suggests, stroking my cheek. “Let’s forget about everything wedding related and do something together. Would you like that?”

I nod. “I’d like that a lot.”

I can’t remember the last time it was just the two of us. We’ve only been in Hawaii for a few days, but it feels like a lifetime. As much as I hate to admit it, suddenly I’m regretting saying yes to having this wedding over here in such a short time frame. I just want to skip all this bullshit and get straight to the part where we say, ‘I do’.

True to his word, Lennon manages to take my mind off everything else for the rest of the night. We go out to dinner, and then for a romantic walk along the beach. He takes my hand in his, and I look out over the water and smile, loving how quiet it is.

“It’s so nice here, isn’t it?” I say.

He nods. “It’s nice for a vacation, but I don’t think I could live here.”

“Really?” I say. “I sure could.”

“You could?” he asks.

“If it had everything I needed, I don’t see why not,” I shrug.

“Really? And what do you need?” he asks with a grin.

I smile and run my finger down the sleeve of his jacket. “You,” I whisper. “That’s all. And I don’t want us to be stressing about things, just to please other people.”

He wraps his arms around me and kisses my forehead. “You worry too much. In the big scheme of things, this wedding is so small, Darcy. We’re getting married. We have our whole lives ahead of us. Let’s just focus on us and forget about everything else for now.”

I nod, wishing it were that easy. I shiver, and rub my arms as a cool breeze hits them. Lennon immediately shrugs off his jacket and wraps it around my shoulders. I nestle into its warmth, smiling up at him, and wonder if he could possibly get any more amazing than he already is.

“Shall we head back?” he asks, taking my hand, and we stroll back to the hotel.

Lennon walks me back to my hotel room, and I turn around and kiss him. He strokes my hair, his eyes locked on mine, clearly with no intention of leaving me just yet.

“Tell me again why having separate rooms is a good idea,” he murmurs.

“You know why,” I grin. “I was hoping to make it special for our wedding night by not being with you like that beforehand.”

He grins and raises his eyebrows. “And, how’s that working out for you?”

“You know just how badly that’s working out for me,” I retort, narrowing my eyes as he chuckles.

“Don’t be too hard on yourself,” he teases. “I’m pretty hard to resist.” I roll my eyes at him, but inside I agree with him. He is hard to resist. Especially when he looks at me like that… “So, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow, then?”
