Violet is telling us about how her and Silas’ wolves keep making them shift and blocking them out and doing gods knows what, and Ember tells us all about her garden fairy drama.
“You should kick them out, Em,” I tell her.
“I just need to be more stern with them. They’re so demanding,” Ember huffs, taking a drink.
My skin feels warm. There’s a slight buzz in my fingers, like electricity humming through my veins. I swallow thickly, knowing what’s about to happen.
Fuck.
“I’ll be right back,” I tell them, dragging myself to the bathroom, holding myself against the wall as the vision hits me.
A deep, otherworldly voice rumbles in the darkness with one simple word.
Finally.
Chapter 6
The Slayer
Time passes quickly in the mortal realms, though this place is far from what I remember.
It’s confusing, loud, and overwhelming.
If the humans have advanced so much, why are they still so helpless and oblivious to the blood-sucking demons that lurk around every corner?
It’s not shocking that they haven’t used their new technology or manufacturing to protect themselves. The times are different, but humans have stayed the same.
Helpless, pathetic, and fucking annoying.
I mostly roam at night, but during the daytime, my human vessel gets hungry, and I have to feed it, which has been a whole ordeal. A woman screamed in fear over my size and the vastness of my voided eyes.
Usually I’m able to manipulate my vessel far easier, calling upon their features, but this one is proving difficult.
“Let me out,” he complains.
“Always whining and bitching. You’re making my head hurt,” I tell him, hoping he’ll shut the fuck up.
If this body wasn’t so strong and if I hadn’t had spent so much time in the void, I’d probably let one of those bloodsuckers kill me so that I could get a new, less annoying vessel. He’s lucky I’m desperate.
My mate has to be here. She can not be a farce. If I do not find her, I must find a way to end these cycles, to end everything. I’d need to destroy that book with my name in it for one, and figure out how to not get sent back to the void.
“Please. Please let me out,” the voice inside of me begs, and I’ve had enough.
“Shut up!” I boom out loud.
A human woman looks at me with fearful wide eyes, and I take a deep breath. I stole these dark eye-coverings off a man who nearly hit me with his massive machine they now use, called a car. His wallet has also proven to be helpful. They no longer use coins in this time, just small rectangular things that store your money on them?
I’m not sure how it works. Either way, Gregory Tammish has been paying for all of my meals, which is great.
This town is a fucking bust. I’ve murdered every vampire within a ten-mile radius, all of them low-level and not a challenge at all.
I’m bored and I want my mate. Yet, my drive to kill is strong and nothing I do will stop it.
Tonight I’ll travel to a new village to see if they have a stronger population of vampires and I’ll keep moving until I sate this blood lust.
I could teleport to the new village, but that takes too much of a toll on my body. I’ll need a new mode of travel.
The woman who brought me food brings me a sheet of paper with numbers on it. She’s clearly terrified, her heart beating at an unnatural rate. “Your receipt and, um…you have some…ketchup? On your shirt?” she says and I glance down at the shirt.
