I sat down on the couch and started watching TV as I listened to him digging through the refrigerator.

“Are you seriously not even going to help?”

“Nope,” I called back contently.

“How about at least pull a chair around and keep me company?”

“No thanks.”

“I don’t think it’s a real date unless you keep my company.”

“Then I guess this isn’t a real date.”

“So what am I? Your personal chef who you just happened to have sex with?”

I knew he was just trying to change the tone of the evening, but I wasn’t going to let him. “Consider that a one-time anomaly.”

“So which position was your favorite?”

I could feel my skin growing warm at the reminder of the things we did that night. But I tried to push those thoughts away. Boy, was that hard.

“I refuse to answer that question.”

“I would say from behind because you have a great ass, but watching you orgasm... seeing your face... now that was—”

He didn’t get another word out since I picked that moment to pick up a throw pillow and toss it at him. And luckily my aim was true.

“Hey,” he said, pushing the pillow off the island where it had ended up after it collided with his face. “No pillow fights unless we’re in bed.”

I changed the channel and looked at him then. He had a stupid smile on his face and I couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s nice to have fantasies.”

“Ha,” he laughed dryly. “So what are you saying?” he asked as he continued chopping vegetables. “You’re saying us together in bed again is just a fantasy that won’t come true? I don’t believe that for a second. And neither do you.”

“Whether I believe it or not, that’s not going to happen tonight.”

He gave me a sad look and I held back a laugh. “The puppy dog eyes aren’t going to convince me otherwise.”

He shrugged and started cooking. “It was worth a try.”

I settled back in front of the TV and deliberately ignored Ty while he cooked. Yeah, this date had been my idea but I had been determined to keep some distance... not just physically but emotionally. I didn’t completely trust Ty yet. I didn’t trust that he wouldn’t do another disappearing act and just blame it on work. Even though he was actively trying to find someone, since he had joined the agency and all, that didn’t mean he was ready or open to a relationship. And that’s what I wanted. A real relationship. I wasn’t settling for anything less.

Ten minutes later, he sat down on my couch next to me and stared at the television.

“What are we watching?” He said trying to snake an arm behind me. I pinched him and he yelped. “Ouch.”

“Keep your hands to yourself.”

“I just wanted to hold you.”

“Not an option.”

“How about your hand? Can I at least hold your hand?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“It’s busy holding the remote.”
