Red-faced, like he ran up and down the hall a few times before showing up.

Odd.

“You go for a run?” I asked, welcoming him in still.

“No?” he asked, not out of breath by any means–so why was his face so red?

“Your face.” I gestured at his face, making him scrunch in confusion. “It’s all red.”

Sam paused, touching his face and suddenly getting a little tense. “Oh,” he huffed, dragging his hand from his face with an embarrassed smile. “I was just cleaning really fast before I came over, so probably just that–it was hot. Sorry for being late.”

“All good,” I chuckled, waving him along to the couch. “I was a bit behind schedule, too, so I just ordered the pizza.”

“All good.” He smiled, dropping onto my couch in a heavy heap. “Partner keep you busy?”

“Only in the best ways,” I joked, moving past him to go get us a drink from my kitchen.

See? Nothing weird here.

Sam knew about Metal.

Metal knew about Sam.

Nothing weird.

…

Fuck–shut up!

Okay, so maybe my weird attraction to Sam was kind of back, but come on! I had very little visual stimulation from Metal, and Sam was a walking ribeye. He was a treat that had a personality so similar to my own boyfriends that sometimes it was hard not to think about Sam like that.

And he only popped into my head once while having phone sex with Metal, but I shut it down fast. I just didn’t have a face to imagine cumming on when that urge hit me the other week, but again, I shut it down fast.

No harm done.

“Dumb ass design,” Sam muttered, huffing at the paused image on my TV screen.

Where Metal and I had been watching Star Wars Rebels before we got distracted.

The screen was paused on one of the Inquisitor lightsabers, from when Metal went on his tangent about how dumb they were again. I told him it was hot when he spoke angry-nerd to me, and then one thing led to another…

“Weird,” I huffed, shaking my head and handing Sam a soda. “My partner thinks they’re dumb, too. I thought they were okay, but they raised some great points about functionality.”

“They’re a smart person,” he said with a smile, almost seeming nervous suddenly.

That was weird…

Sam was being weird, but it was weird that he said almost the same words I heard Metal muttering half an hour ago, right?

Hm.

Maybe he just felt weird about being compared to my boyfriend.

Chapter 22

Sam

The plan went out the window–clearly.
