I take a step forward and fake a punch towards the frontman. I clench back my arm. All pretend. He stumbles back with arms raised, cowering away.

“No one talks to my girl like that,” I seethe, holding myself back from the fucker. “I guess you’re all words and no bite, though. Tiny little Oz with his tiny little cock, unable to get his dick sucked, right?”

“Fuck you.”

Oz’s reply is very unimaginative.

I slowly turn back around to Maddie. “Let’s get on the plane,” I say to her. “Ignore him.”

She looks at me with both sadness and fear. It’s the words that Oz has just said to her. Those barbed words of pain and humiliation. Sure, I was able to frighten him, but I wish I could do so much more to avenge my girl.

All I want to do is take her in a tight embrace and tell her she has nothing to worry about.

She isn’t plain at all.

As I look at her, it happens.

I don’t see the spray of water until it’s too late.

It comes from behind me. A directed torrent of water that completely drenches Maddie and makes her yelp.

What the fuck?

I spin around.

It’s Oz. He’s got a hose in his hands. One that they keep on the runway to wash down planes with.

And he’s spraying Maddie with water.

“Look,” Oz gleefully announces. “I’m giving her a clean for you, Axel. Maybe she won’t be so plain anymore.”

I lunge towards the man, but Bishop grabs me before I can get the opportunity to place my hands around the bastard’s neck. I watch as Caspian, towering over Oz, gently removes the hose from the man’s hands without any resistance and switches it off. There is some deep fucking fear in Oz’s eyes as he stares up at Ravaged’s massive drummer. Caspian doesn’t say a word.

“He’s not worth our time, Axel,” Bishop whispers into my ear, calming me down. “I know you’re angry, but this is not the place for retaliation. Make sure your girl is okay.”

He’s right. Maddie is more important.

Sensing a shift in my manner, Bishop lets me go.

“You’re lucky Bishop was here to stop me,” I warn the lead singer of Tainted Lives. “Next time you won’t be so lucky.”

Maddie has already run into the private jet. I follow closely behind. She needs me.

I reach out to stop her once we’re inside.

“You okay?” I ask.

“I am.”

She’s shivering. She’s pretending to be brave for me, but I see right past it.

“Maddie…”

She cuts me off.

“I don’t like to see you angry,” she tells me. “That’s what I care about most. I honestly don’t give a shit about Tainted Lives and their stupid water prank or anything, only about you.”

She doesn’t know how sweet she’s being. How much her words mean to me.
