Chloe turns around and gestures towards her roommate. “Lucas, meet my friend Gary. He’s been amazing these last few days.”
The two men shake hands, and I see something fly between them. A little spark, perhaps?
I knew something like that would happen, hence why I mentioned my manager to Gary earlier at the party.
Ha. Here goes.
“Hi,” Lucas says to the big man.
Gary’s eyes fly up and down the body of Ravaged’s manager. “Hello, gorgeous.”
Oh, yes. Here we go…
Good for Lucas. Too long he’s been busy taking care of us boys he’s barely had any time to live his own life. Maybe Gary might be the guy to loosen him up.
As she steps on the bus, Chloe winks at me. Lucas and Gary are stuck talking to each other. Already hitting it off.
“You’re such a cupid,” I whisper to her.
“I’m just introducing my friends,” she replies with a mock-innocent, high-pitched voice. “If they like like each other, then that’s down to them.”
I roll my eyes and take a seat.
We get to Vegas in the early morning. The bus ride is so fun. We play classic tunes and have a proper singalong. Lucas made sure the bus’ supply of champagne was full before he rode it to us, so we have a great time in the back.
This is the rockstar life. Being surrounded by your closest friends and family. Rocking out. Celebrating being alive, our successes, and our relationships.
It’s the best night of our lives.
Only one thing spoils it.
Drake.
At some point in the ride, he corners me in the back of the bus so that we’re alone together.
“I don’t like it,” he says with a serious-looking frown on his pretty face.
I roll my eyes. I know Drake well enough to know what he’s saying. Us boys in Ravaged are closer than brothers and can practically finish each other’s sentences.
“What don’t you like, Drake?”
“Axel, and now you…”
“Now us, what?”
The lead singer of Ravaged shrugs. “You two are obsessed with girls. This isn’t what the band’s about. The band is the most important thing.”
“The band’s not losing out just because two of us have found our happiness,” I retort. I’m getting annoyed at my bandmate’s insistence. Sure, we did come up with rules that forbade anything else, especially relationships, to become more important than the band, but Chloe… Maddie… they’re different. They’re not just some girls us two rockstars have picked up for shits and giggles. Chloe is the love of my life, always has been. And Maddie is Axel’s love.
“We should be practicing,” Drake continues darkly. “Not going to Vegas.”
I face up to my brother. “Shut up, Drake, and just enjoy this moment.”
Drake grumbles and leans back in his seat. “Okay.”
But there is an ominous look about him I don’t like.
I pat him on the shoulder and join the others. He spends some time wallowing in the back of the bus before he steps back into the celebrations with a smile on his face, putting the gloomy conversation behind him. Where it should be.
