The vampire drew a sharp breath, and she reluctantly opened her eyes, her face burning hot with humiliation.
He was watching her with a different intensity than he had before. His eyes were glazed with lust, his voice deep as he said, “good girl.”
Kira hated the way his praise warmed her like sunlight, especially when she felt so defeated. Still, she allowed herself one final act of defiance. She raised her chin and narrowed her eyes at him. It was the best she could do, and she mustered every remaining scrap of willpower she had left to do it.
“Bow your head,” the vampire commanded, each word stabbing her as he denied her that one little morsel of pride.
She shook her head, refusing to look away.
No.
Enough.
I did what you asked. Now take the collar off me.
His voice grew gentle. “Kira, I cannot reach the strap unless you lean closer and bow your head.”
The tenderness in his voice surprised her, soothing her anguish, and his words made sense. Reluctantly, she obeyed and lowered her head.
Clever fingers worked the straps behind her head, and as the pressure eased, so too did the gag. The collar was still tight around her neck, but at least the gag wasn’t cutting into her cheeks anymore.
Her jaw went slack, but she was too weak to spit the ball out. Before she could take a hold of it, he took hold of the loose leathers in front of her face and jerked it out.
She gasped for air, falling forward onto her palms as she adjusted to the gag’s absence, wriggling her jaw, wetting her dry lips and swallowing several times. She could breathe normally again, and she hung her head as she savoured her freedom. Her hair was damp with drool, and her vision blurred, the rug’s pattern of purples and pinks blending together.
“Very good, pet,” said the vampire, the note of approval in his tone sending a shiver down her spine.
Her head snapped up. “I am not your pet.”
She was not a dog, or a pet, or a plaything. She was Kira, and it was the only name she would accept from him.
“Oh?” said the vampire. “But look at how well you knelt for me. It took a little coaxing, but you gave in far more quickly than the others.”
His words hit her like a slap across the face. What others?
No. He was riling her up on purpose. He had to be.
“Liar,” she snarled, a wolfish growl rumbling in her chest.
His lips parted in surprise, and something menacing glimmered in his eyes as he leant forward in his seat. Their faces were inches apart, and she could see the faint blond shadow of his stubble. What would it feel like to run her hand along it? Rough?
“I wouldn’t growl, if I were you,” he warned.
Whatever.
“Why not?”
“Because,” he continued, his voice deep and low like thunder, “it turns me on like you wouldn’t imagine. So, unless you want this evening to finish with my cum all over your face, you’ll desist at once.”
Her jaw dropped, and she stared up at him in shock, scarcely able to believe her ears.
“Mm, yes,” he said, trailing a long finger along her jawline and tipping her chin upwards, “that’s exactly the ‘O’ face you’ll make when it happens.”
White-hot anger shattered her stupor.
“Asshole!” she cried, knocking his hand away as she leapt up. “You’re disgusting!”
He shrugged. “I want what I want. And you, my dear, are not so different.”
