He gave an indifferent shrug, but his eyes were empty, the emotion drained out of them. It was a killer’s stare. “I want what I want.”

She repressed a shudder.

“If it’s any consolation,” he continued, “the last thing I want is to kill you.”

She huffed. “You may as well. I’d rather be dead than yours.”

His lips flattened and he returned to stare out the window. “We shall see.”

She turned to leave, but Nathaniel’s voice made her stop.

“One more thing…”

“Yes?” she asked warily, addressing his back.

“Remember how I taste, darling pet.”

His words made her excruciatingly aware of the way his semen clung like film to the back of her palate. Mortified, she fled, clutching the knife to her chest as she returned to her dorm room, ignoring the stares of passing students moving between classrooms.

I can’t give up. I won’t.

She showered in the bathroom on the fifth floor, running the water extra hot in an attempt to wash all traces of the vampire away. She felt better once she’d rinsed her mouth with water, and washed her face with frothy soap, but she couldn’t forget the way his thick cum had tasted in her mouth. When her hands drifted down to wash herself, she stilled, her fingers caressing her clit. The place where Nathaniel’s long, slender fingers had touched her—invaded her.

She wanted to be angry at him, to blame him for touching her against her will, but she would have been lying to herself.

She shut her eyes, her head falling back against the tiles as she stroked herself the way he had, exhaling through her nostrils.

The stall was full of steam, the hot water cathartic as it drummed against her skin. Her breathing grew ragged as the feelings building inside her intensified, and she moaned softly as she brought herself to a long, slow climax. She let out a long sigh of relief when she was done, blinking against the shower of water.

“There,” she muttered to herself, leaning heavily against the tiled wall as her knees weakened. There was nothing special about Nathaniel, nor the way he’d made her feel. She could make herself feel good too.

She didn’t need him.

So why had she fantasised about Nathaniel as she made herself come?

Why was the memory of his condescending smirk as he’d fingered her in his office the thing that drove her over the edge?

Kira spent the rest of the day in bed, cursing Nathaniel and trying not to feel sorry for herself. She needed to formulate a new plan, but her brain was frazzled and echoing with the last words he’d spoken.

Remember how I taste, darling pet.

It pissed her off—but not nearly as much as it should have.

Chapter 26

Rejection

Kira

The following day, Kira summoned the courage to attend class and face her peers, who were still too afraid to associate with her.

In the corridors, the wolf shifter students avoided her. Some went so far as to press themselves against lockers or duck into classrooms just to get away.

Not like I wanted to speak to them anyway, she thought, lifting her head higher. She allowed herself a hopeful smile when she spotted a familiar, hulking figure laughing with his friends.

“Mark,” she greeted, trying to appear unfazed as she walked up to him in the middle of the corridor. She had half a mind to yell at him after his cowardice in the gym, but she pushed that feeling aside and forced a pleasant smile to her face. Shouting at him wouldn’t get her anywhere. All she needed was for him to acknowledge her in front of the others, to show that there was nothing to be afraid of. Maybe then, people wouldn’t avoid her like the plague. “I’m glad we bumped into each other.”

“Kira!” Mark said, startling. “How are you?”
