Nathaniel smiled and tugged her head forward by the plait.
“Hey!” she protested.
“We can argue about it later when you suck my cock. But it’s time for school, and I don’t want you to be tardy. Now, fetch your collar and leash. I set it out for you on your mat.”
Kira swallowed and turned slowly on the spot to face the foot of the bed. Sure enough, the red-jewelled collar bearing her locket was there, with a matching red leash looped beside it. He’d removed the collar when they’d returned to his room, and she’d felt strangely naked without it.
“We can do this the easy way, or the hard way,” Nathaniel spoke in her ear. “But if you wish to see Susie before class, I suggest you make haste.”
Kira snapped her head back at him in astonishment. “You’ll let me see Susie?”
“Yes, pet. I thought you might like to see her. I will escort you to the sick bay, and then to class.”
Her anger faded as gratitude took its place. “Yes, sir, I would,” she said hesitantly.
“Well, then. Let’s not waste time.”
Appreciation for his thoughtfulness warred with her opinion of what a complete and utter asshole he was being. But Susie was more important than her personal gripes, and she quickly fetched the collar and leash.
“Good girl. That wasn’t so hard, was it?”
She rolled her eyes as he fastened the jewelled collar around her neck, wincing at the sound of the leash clipping onto her collar—it was a significant blow to her ego.
“Did you have that leash especially made for me?” she queried, eyeing the thin leash.
“No. I bought this in a pet shop.”
“A dog leash?” she hissed.
Nathaniel laughed softly under his breath. “No, pet. It’s a cat leash.”
No fucking way. She lunged at him, fists drawn. He caught her, but her momentum sent them tumbling out into the hallway. Nathaniel managed to steady them before they hit the floor, and he slammed her into the wall, knocking the breath from her lungs.
“Are you quite finished?” he asked.
“No,” she argued, but then she thought of Susie, and reconsidered her answer. “Yes, I’m finished. Sorry, sir.”
“That’s all right, pet. This is our first walk on leash in public…it is normal to feel nervous.”
He placed one hand in the pocket of his waistcoat and tugged the leash.
“Come along, now, pet.”
Kira took six reluctant, agonising steps down the hallway before digging her heels in.
“What is it, pet?”
She shook her head furiously. She could hear the sound of vampire students from the kitchen, and was suddenly overwhelmed with the fear of appearing like this in front of everyone. The thought of Nathaniel walking her through the school like she was a dog was too much. It was too public. Too humiliating. “I can’t. Everyone will see me.”
Nathaniel stepped close and cupped her face. “That is the point. Everyone will see that you are my beautiful, obedient…” he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, “submissive pet. And after these public displays, my father will hear of the progress we are making and leave us alone.”
“Have you considered how this will affect my standing with the Poplarins?” Kira hissed.
“It can’t be any worse than it is now,” he teased, patting her face making her growl. “Trust me, pet. Leadership can be a fickle thing. You will rule over them soon enough. In the meantime, you will do as I say.”
“Wow, you’ve really won me over,” she quipped, crossing her arms. “Here’s another option: take the leash off, and I’ll heel beside you without protest. Deal?”
“There will be no more renegotiations, pet.”
