He leant forward, but Kira chose that moment to slip off his lap and kneel by his feet.

“Kira, what are you doing?”

“Given that this is my last opportunity to train with you, sir…perhaps I should demonstrate all that I’ve learnt?”

The soft ‘sir’ made his hair stand on end, his body sizzling with streaks of lightning as she slid her delicate hands along his thighs.

He did not protest as she took his cock out.

She handled it carefully, her hot tongue sliding along his semi-hard length divine strokes that soon had him at full mast.

Even though his heart ached as the last of their time together slipped away, he surrendered himself to the moment, gripping her thick lustrous hair as she began to suck.

Chapter 23

The Haxby Hotel

Kira

The Haxby Hotel was a tall building in the heart of the Capital. Its cool halls and opulent furnishings offering respite from the bustling streets outside.

The suite that Nathaniel had reserved was on the top level occupying half the floor, with tall windows offering a stunning view of the evening sun as it dipped below the horizon. Golden light bathed the west-facing rooms, causing the polished tiles, rich furnishings and gilded decorations to glow. Everywhere Kira trod, soft plush carpet caressed her feet, which were bare except for her white silk stockings.

She didn’t dare ask how much the suite had cost, and could only stare at the luxury in awe as she explored the rooms. There was a bathroom with a deep tub and a selection of lotions and oils, and a balcony full of exotic-looking plants and a loveseat.

Out of nowhere, a yellow-crested bird fluttered onto the balcony and began to sing.

“Do you like it?” Nathaniel asked, appearing behind her as she stared at the balcony.

“I do,” she nodded eagerly, momentarily forgetting why she was here as she turned to Nathaniel. “This is amazing.”

“The birds are trained to do that. Sing, that is.”

Kira had not known that, but she laughed and gave him a playful push. “Not just the bird. Everything.” She gestured at the suite, pulling him along by the hand. “All of this. It’s absolutely incredible.”

Her excitement petered out as she spotted the bed, a grand four-poster draped in cascading layers of deep burgundy and gold silk that pooled onto the polished mahogany floor. The headboard bore intricate carvings of twisted vines, and the corner posts made her mind jump to the fantasy of Nathaniel tying her to them.

Except it wasn’t Nathaniel who would take her here. She bit her lip and frowned.

“What’s the matter?” Nathaniel asked with concern, resting a warm hand on the small of her back.

“I wish it was just us,” she nearly said, but managed to hold the words back. Tonight would be hard enough without having second thoughts. Now that she’d made a decision, she just had to follow through. Once it was over, the rest of her life could begin. Finally, she would be back on track to her initial goal when she’d first stepped into the academy: to become an alpha.

She would work to unite all the packs, just like she’d always planned. With Nathaniel’s wedding fast approaching, she would soon be presented to Henrikk, and they would need the shifters’ support once she assassinated him.

Just one step at a time. First, she had to get through this ordeal with Mark.

“I’m fine,” she added, offering Nathaniel a smile.

Meeting his gaze just made it worse. He was breathtakingly handsome, his icy blond hair golden in the sunset, his face angled, his eyes soft as they drew her in.

Kiss me, she thought, suddenly craving his touch, his lips, the safety of his arms.

“You’re nervous,” he said, caressing her cheek.

She leant into his hand, closing her eyes against the warmth of his palm. “I’m glad you’re here.”

It couldn’t be easy for him to witness what was about to happen, and if she’d been braver, perhaps she would have insisted she was fine to be here by herself. The fact that he would be here to protect her, to ensure nothing went wrong, gave her the strength to go through with it. Even if the thought of just seeing Mark made her gag.
