A white-hot determination rushed through him as he pounded Kira against the slick, tiled wall, the water trickling fast down their faces and hair obscuring their vision.
He lost all sense of time as his brooding thoughts consumed him, and he let Kira feel the full force of it.
He would tell a thousand lies if he had to, because the thought of his father whipping her perfect, unmarred back as he bedded her made him sick to the stomach.
His mind was set, his heart heavy with grief, but at least he no longer felt guilty. Finally, he would do right by Kira.
The plan would remain the same, only that he would cut Kira out of it…At least until he’d dealt with his father. And then she would be free to rule.
In the meantime, he still had to marry Gloria in order to become king. It was his father’s condition, introduced to prevent revolt, and it was a sensible one.
Henrikk may have dubbed himself King after the takeover, making Nathaniel the Crown Prince, but deep down, every vampire knew that Gloria was the rightful heir to the throne. She was the daughter of Vampire King Dmitri, who had died several years before the Revolution, and Vampire Queen Liddia, who’d died immediately after the Revolution. Henrikk had given her to his men, and she’d died a slow, humiliating death. ‘A traitor’s death’, Henrikk had called it, using Liddia’s death as a warning to other vampires as he banned marriage between vampires and other races.
“Where are you?” Kira asked, breaking through his thoughts.
“Here,” he said, opening his eyes and squinting through the heavy downpour of water. He kissed her, long and slow, before continuing his movements. “I’m always here, with you.”
Kira gasped for air as his movements grew ominously slow, the force of his cock slamming into her and pushing her up the wall, causing her legs to squeeze around him.
Should I tell her?
He doubted Kira knew how her mother had died, and perhaps it was better he spared her the horror of it. The mode of Liddia’s execution was widespread knowledge amongst older vampires, but it was rarely spoken about, and few people of Kira’s generation even knew who Liddia was. It contradicted Henrikk’s rule too much.
There was another thought weighing on Nathaniel. Since Gloria and Kira had the same mother, it meant they were half-sisters. The dilemma of when to tell Kira had been gnawing at him.
Even if he did, there would be no heartfelt reunion. The two women were nothing alike. Gloria was thirty-years-old, as he was, and had been raised at Wintermaw Keep by Henrikk, the man who’d subjected her mother to a slow, humiliating death.
Growing up as a political hostage in Henrikk’s court had not been easy for Gloria, and she’d grown to become as cruel as the courtiers around her. The vampiress had never lost her supporters, who had infiltrated Henrikk’s court and secretly supported her right to rule, and this made her dangerous.
A danger that will be neutralised if she marries me.
Thinking of Gloria at a time like this was cooling his ardour, and he pushed his worries aside as he focused on the beautiful wolf in his arms.
Kira was wildly different from her cold half sister. Kira was passionate and full of life, her spirit burning hot as it drove her from one goal to the next. She was also watchful and reserved, speaking out only when confronting an injustice.
And when she was angry, fiery sparks flew that brightened the darkest of nights and seared a lasting impression on his soul.
Soon, I won’t have a soul at all.
Once Nathaniel killed his father with his own hands, he would become a soulless, pitiful creature. Unable to love, or to feel the sun on his skin. Doomed to feel nothing at all. It was a lot like what he imagined being married to Gloria would have been like.
Shit.
Once again, stress had turned his thoughts back to his father and his dreaded wedding night. Couldn’t he just enjoy this final night with Kira without thoughts of his father tarnishing it?
And yet, with his decision to cut Kira out of the plan, a weight had been lifted off his chest.
He’d been panting for air as he fucked her, but now his lungs could draw air properly.
This was it. This was what he should have done all along, and he was only ashamed he hadn’t had the guts to do it sooner. But it was not too late to be the man Kira deserved, at least while he still had a soul.
In the meantime, for these last remaining hours in the hotel room, he would make love to Kira with every fibre of his being. He would worship her, and he would fuck her in every way he knew how, teaching her all the ways to satisfy him as he revelled in the tight needy dampness of her cunt. Because once he was cursed, he would lose her and himself in every way that mattered, and he would never feel love again.
For Kira.
Resolve empowered him, hardening his mind, his muscles, and even his cock. Kira felt it too, because she gasped, a half-smile of surprise lighting up her features.
“You were brooding again,” she murmured, caressing his face.
