She was careful to pose it as a question. It made her sound more passive, but she was determined not to accidentally command Arken to do anything. He didn’t seem to mind half as much as she did, but there were so many expressions that could be taken literally.
Henrikk had weaponised their relationship. She hated the thought of how amused he must be.
Harry wouldn’t have survived a day in her position. One remark of ‘just go ahead and kill me now’ amidst an eye roll would have been the end of it.
Arken seemed hesitant. “It must be difficult returning here.”
“There are bad memories attached to this room,” Susie admitted. “But good ones as well. Let’s make another?”
“Now?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
Susie leant close and kissed him, first slowly, then hungrily. “Yes. I’m sure.” She’d made a full recovery, and she wanted to move forward. According to Harry, agonising over the past was ‘pointless’, and there were times like now when she couldn’t help but agree.
“Shouldn’t we be inside your room?” Arken pointed out, drawing back.
“Nope.”
“People will see,” he told her.
“There’s no one here. Most people have already gone to class.”
“Most people.” Arken nodded his head towards the stairwell where a vampire was standing guard. “We’d have an audience.”
Susie sucked on his lower lip, biting it gently. Her voice was breathy as she said, “I don’t mind. Do you?”
Arken let out a long exhale. “No. No, I do not mind.”
He swung her down in a dip so suddenly that she shrieked in surprise. Then she laughed as he held her suspended almost upside-down as if they were a dancing couple in a ballroom, just like in the romance books she’d read. She could almost picture the rose between his teeth. “I’m simply surprised.”
Susie grinned up at him. “I think it’s a little exciting…knowing that someone might see.”
Arken’s eyes flashed, then he squinted in amusement, his lip curling. “You know…I had quite gotten it into my head that you were a shy little thing.”
Susie cocked her head at him. “Whatever gave you that idea?”
His expression grew hungry as he pulled her close, murmuring against her lips, “You know, I haven’t the faintest clue.”
Chapter 47
Exhibitionism
Arken
Arken stepped into Susie, pushing her against the closed door to her room.
“Are you sure?” he asked, breaking their kiss to glance at the guard at the end of the corridor. The vampire was stoic, but unapologetically looking their way.
Susie raised an eyebrow at Arken at the same time that her hand slid up his leg to palm his trousers. “I’m sure.”
“Oh, fuck me,” he groaned, louder than he’d intended to, bracing his arm against the door above her head.
Her eyebrow hitched higher. “That’s the plan.”
She squeezed, causing aching pleasure to surge in his balls. She repeated the motion, kneading him through his trousers, and his vision danced with stars.
