Quietly, she let herself sink down on the ground, hidden in the building’s shadow. A warm breeze played across her skin, trying to calm her heavy breathing. She didn’t know what Arken wanted, but she didn’t like the powerful effect he had on her.

Susie stared through the balcony’s stone balustrade, trying to take her mind off the fervent yearning pulsing through her.

The large grey rooftop of the academy’s main building shimmered like silver in the sunlight. The school’s vast grassy lawns and sports fields were visible far below, encircled by a wrought iron fence. Surrounding Volmasque Academy was the Capital, which was said to be the most beautiful and liveable city in the world.

Especially if you’re a vampire.

For the many vampires who made their home in the Capital, every need was catered to, including feeding. This was thanks to the mass conscription of adult wolves, who were required to donate blood, labour, and other services for the good of the kingdom.

That could very well be her fate, if she couldn’t place in a better job once she graduated. Her parents had avoided conscription by accepting administrative positions coordinating the feeding centres. But Susie would never be able to prop up a system she did not believe in. Her only hope was that her education at Volmasque Academy would provide a better slew of job opportunities for her to choose from. Perhaps working in a library.

The minutes passed, and it became apparent that Arken had left. She shifted position restlessly.

There was something profoundly attractive about him that made her want to believe in him even though he’d done nothing but use her.

He forced me in my own bed.

The humiliating memory rippled through her, followed by a fresh rush of heat as she recalled his hard, deliberate thrusts.

She glanced around the deserted balcony. She was definitely alone. Her hand drifted towards her heat, subtly pressing against her mound through her skirt to try and quell the burning ache there. It helped—a little.

She didn’t know whether it was Arken’s age, courteous mannerisms, or his position as headmaster, but he was making her feel things she shouldn’t.

He was a vampire. Which meant he felt nothing for her beyond the pleasure he could take from using her body.

She was just a toy.

A toy that she feared he’d just claimed for his personal use.

She sensed movement from the corner of her eye and jerked her hand away from her lap as she whipped her head around.

Arken was leaning against the narrow arch, looking as calm as if he’d come across her by accident, and not as if he’d just chased her down an endless flight of steps.

“What do you want from me?” she asked.

“For starters, I would like to talk to you.”

“I don’t want to talk.”

“Perhaps you would humour me regardless?”

Susie had no choice but to nod. Dread twisted her insides as she spotted the prominent length bulging in his trousers. It revealed his true intentions.

Of course he isn’t here to talk.

The headmaster had claimed her. And he was here for satisfaction.

Chapter 18

His Pet

Susie

Arken remained standing in the archway, a towering presence as she sat with her back pressed against the wall. She began to stand, but Arken stopped her with a gentle, firm hand on her shoulder.

“Please, no need to get up.”

Susie eased back onto the cold ground, wincing as the glassy base of the plug pushed the toy up into her. The increased pressure only made the ache in her core intensify.
