“She invited us here,” Oscar said, leaping away from Susie and jerking his finger at her. “She kissed me. Sh-she wanted this!”

The room shrank as Arken came closer, every step commanding and making the omegas diminish in size.

Arken glanced at Susie, holding her gaze for an extended moment. Then he looked at Oscar. He stopped before the wolf, his gaze lingering on the wolf’s injured arm before snapping up to his face. His voice was low and foreboding. “You are touching what is mine.”

Oscar gulped. “She offered herself to me. I swear!”

Arken glanced at her. “Is that true?”

Susie’s insides twisted. ‘No’, she wanted to say, except there was some truth to Oscar’s statement. She had offered herself if only to try and find a way out of the situation. “I was stalling,” she whispered.

Her quiet answer was drowned out by the omegas, who began to simultaneously apologise and offer up explanations about how ‘she wanted it’, fabricating a tale that made Susie sick to her stomach.

She felt small and helpless beneath Arken’s scrutiny, at a loss for words as the four wolves slandered her.

“You were stalling?” Arken murmured, his voice equally quiet.

Susie nodded.

Suddenly, Arken’s voice cut through the chatter, the full force of his authority rendering the room silent.

“You,” he said, his eyes narrowing at Oscar as he enunciated each word, “what is your name?”

“O-Oscar.” The smell of urine hit Susie’s nostrils as the wolf’s trousers stained dark.

“I want your full names,” Arken said coldly, his gaze snapping to the other wolves. “And the names of your packs. All of you.”

The omegas all mumbled their names one by one as Arken glared.

Seeing him so furious was terrifying.

“All Poplarins,” he murmured. “How disappointing.”

Would Arken kill the wolves? Susie could feel the anger rolling off him, and it was clear the omegas were thinking the same thing. What would the consequences be? Would they leave the room alive?

Arken stared down at the puddle at Oscar’s feet and scoffed softly.

“Sir, p-please—” Oscar began.

“Silence. You are to go directly to your rooms. I will deal with you all later.” When they didn’t move, he barked, “Leave.”

The wolves scattered so hastily they knocked into desks and toppled several chairs over.

Susie held her breath as they vacated the room, and she didn’t let it out again until she and Arken were alone.

Her ears rang, and she was shaking terribly as clammy tremors moved through her in waves.

Arken’s expression was pained as he looked her up and down. “Are you hurt?”

Susie shook her head, her quiet whisper sounding frail. “No.”

“Good.”

When he didn’t say anything else, she asked, “How did you find me?”

“I was in the foyer when I heard a student—a female wolf shifter, I believe—calling for help.”

“That was Sarah, one of my pack members,” Susie said. “We had a pack meeting tonight.”
