The failed alliance between the Devlins and the Morettis was already a solid reason for him to want someone to pay for it, but by announcing my marriage to Jade, I pushed it further and humiliated him. My brothers and I knew he was going to react once that happened.

“How long do you think before he does something stupid?”

“Not long,” Cain gives a humorless laugh. “He already showed he’s unstable when he shot at Malachi during a party. And pushed Jade into her pool.”

“And he's capable of worse,” Zeke adds.

My brothers are right. Men like him don't absorb humiliation, they look for somewhere to put it and right now, I look like his best option.

“He'll go after the Morettis,” Cain speaks.

Zeke shakes his head. “Maybe, but we can’t tell for sure.”

“He has already decided Jade is the reason he lost,” Cain agrees.

“And he's not wrong,” Levi says. “But let’s not forget about our dear brother.”

My eyes move to him and he lifts both hands in the air, defending himself. “I'm not blaming her, I would have run away from Nolan at the first chance, too.”

“I know.”

Elijah taps one of the photographs. “The problem is what happens if he moves against us or the Morettis and we respond.”

“We could attack first,” Cain suggests.

“That would start an open war,” Elijah points out.

“We're already at war,” Levi cuts in before Elijah can say anything else.

“No,” I interrupt them. “We're in a conflict right now. There's a difference between the two.”

“Mal is right,” Zeke agrees. “We don’t have enough money or allies to sustain a war right now.”

“Which is why this marriage to a Moretti is so important to begin with,” Elijah agrees.

“If we get pulled into a war before we're ready, even winning could leave us weaker than we were before it started,” Zeke leans back in his chair.

“That’s why we need to make sure we have him contained,” I close the file in front of me, sick of looking at Nolan’s face.

“He's not a dog,” Cain barely holds back a laugh.

“No,” I say. “He's worse than a dog.”

Levi lets out a quiet laugh.

“Who's watching his men?” I turn towards Elijah, who’s already pulling more security footage on his screen.

“I have people on the obvious locations,” he says. “Like the club where he spends a lot of his time at and his estate.”

“That’s not enough,” I shake my head.

“I’m on it,” Elijah nods.

“I don’t like admitting this, but Nolan is dangerous,” I continue. “He’s a loose canon and he could do something stupid and damage our alliance with the Morettis.”

“I agree,” Zeke takes a sip of coffee. It’s strange to see my brother drinking coffee in a meeting, but then again, we don’t usually have this type of meeting in the morning. “The wedding must happen before he gets a chance to ruin it.”

“I already started organizing everything for next week,” I say, pulling the plan a wedding planner sent me earlier this morning. “It’s going to be a lot smaller than your wedding with Riley, but it’s the best we can do in such a short period of time.”
