“Want to share with the class?” Sebastian asked, even though he continued to keep his eyes locked on the screen. The shit he was seeing made it obvious that they were soon going to be deployed.

“Fuck!”

Sebastian sat up higher on the bed, his gaze swinging between Gideon and the television. “What, are you seeing this?” Sebastian asked as he nodded to the T.V.

“Huh?” Gideon looked up from his computer and then glanced over at the television. “No, that’s not it. I found more on your mother’s death. It wasn’t in the case files, but I found an e-mail between the investigating officer and his lieutenant. The lieutenant said to close the case, because it looked like two of the other murders they’d had the previous years. Both women had been stabbed to death.”

Sebastian got off the bed and went around to look at Gideon’s computer. “I can e-mail you their reports and you can read it off your goddamn phone because you don’t have a tablet or laptop like any reasonable human being.” Gideon scowled up at him.

“Jesus, untwist your panties. Let me read over your shoulder.”

Sebastian quickly scanned the summaries of the two prostitutes who had been killed. Both of them had been teenage African American girls, and they had been stabbed repeatedly in their chest and abdomen and left in dumpsters.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me. My mother’s throat was slit, and her body was found in a culvert outside of the city limits. These girls were found near the bus station. Was the lieutenant smoking crack?”

Gideon shot Sebastian a look. “You know what he was doing. He was following your grandfather’s orders.”

Sebastian slammed his fist down on the desk. “This gets us nowhere.”

“Actually, there’s more. The detective responded to his lieutenant. He said he didn’t want to shut down his case, he had another lead he wanted to follow up on. Dumb bastard put it in writing. He was demoted a month later.”

“We need to get his contact information.”

Gideon grinned at Sebastian. “Already have it. Hope you weren’t actually planning on getting some sleep tonight, because we’re driving back to Baton Rouge instead of staying here in Dallas.”

“You got that in one, because anyway, I’m sick of the way you drive,” Sebastian said as he turned off the television. “You can sleep while I drive this time.”

“It’s my rental truck and I had to go out of my way to find that truck. I had to actually grease some palms.”

“Quit your whining,” Sebastian said as he got his shit out of the bathroom. “You know I’m the better driver.”

“Bullshit,” Gideon said as he closed his laptop with a laugh. “So tell me about Gianna.”

Sebastian had been waiting for that question. “There’s nothing to tell.”

“Since you’re going to be driving, I have hours to ask you questions. It will be fun.”

Sebastian filled his duffel and glared at Gideon.

This so will not be fun.
