“According to the last coordinates we had for her, we are exactly in the right place.”

“We’re waiting, Gideon. If you get any intel in the meantime, send it our way. Is your hiding place any good?” Jase asked.

“As good as we could make it and possibly get back out when you find the women.”

“Gotcha,” Jase said.

They’d gotten rid of their kaftans as soon as they were clear of the city of Homs. Their desert camouflage would give them cover during the day, as long as they could fade into the low-lying brush.

Linc saw the gathering storm clouds and knew that they would be in for a rainy day of hiding. He pulled out his poncho and Jase did the same thing.

“Oh joy,” Linc muttered.

Rain fell through the grate onto Leila and Katherine.

I’m going to see this as a positive.

I’m going to think positive thoughts.

I will.

Rainbows.

Unicorns.

Bullshit.

“Is your bra lace?” Katherine asked. “Or is it more substantial?”

“What? What are you talking about?”

“I’m thirsty as hell, and it would be lovely if we had something more to drink out of than just our hands.”

“Yeah. Yeah, it’s a sports bra. It’d work.” Leila chuckled. “I will no longer bitch about being a size D cup again.” She unbuttoned her blouse and unhooked her bra and handed it to Katherine.

“No, it’s best if we both do it. You hold one side, I’ll hold the other side taut. That way we should be able to fill it the best.”

“Whatever you say, you’re the scientist.”

The water was freezing cold, and goo from the grate was also being washed into the bra cups.

“There. That’s enough. Drink, Leila,” Katherine encouraged by nodding her head. Leila drank all the water from one cup. Then she drank only half the water from the second.

“You need to drink it all,” Katherine encouraged. “We’re both dehydrated.”

“No, that’s all right,” Leila demurred.

“Are you worried that you might have to tinkle? You’re among friends. I know I’m going to have to tinkle, because I intend to drink a lot of water.”

Leila gave a bit of a laugh. After all, what else could she do?

“I enjoy hearing you laugh, Leila. Now drink up.”

The cups had filled up with more rainwater, so she had to drink even more. She finished it all. They repeated the process for Katherine. Then, an hour later, when they both had to pee, Leila wasn’t as embarrassed as she thought she’d be.

“I’m sorry Landry’s dead,” she said to Katherine. “But it would be hell stuck in a hole with him.”
