“Anyway, I already checked. Somebody just canceled their reservation, so he’s got a two-room suite available for a long weekend. Normally these go for over a grand a night. Instead, this will cost you three hundred a night. Trust me, take it.”

Linc grinned. This was perfect!

“Amy, you’re a goddess! I will definitely take it. Thank you so much. Who do I need to call to reserve it?”

Amy gave him all the details.

Linc hung up and went to his computer. He immediately booked the hotel, then texted Leila to find out if he could pick her up early.

He got an immediate response back.

Leila: You don’t have to pick me up, I can always meet you someplace, but early would be wonderful.

Linc: How do you feel about a getaway in the Shenandoah Valley?

Linc cringed when the bubbles kept popping up, showing that Leila was writing a long text.

God, he sounded like he wanted to sleep with her right off the bat. Before she could finish, he typed again.

Linc: A friend hooked me up with a two-bedroom suite.

Leila: I’ve only been there one time, but it was beautiful. A lot of the clothes that I have with me are for winter, so that would be perfect. When are you thinking you could pick me up?

Linc did some quick math. It would take him six hours to get to DC, and then two hours to get to the hotel. If he left now, they should be able to get to the hotel at dusk. And there really had been no snow since late January, so the roads should be good.

Linc: I should hit your place about fifteen hundred hours. How does that sound?

Leila: Fifteen hundred hours, sounds all sexy Navy speak. That’s how it sounds.

Linc chuckled.

Linc: I look forward to meeting your parents.

Leila: My dad looks forward to meeting you.

This time Linc winced. Her dad was pretty high up in the FBI. He’d had Gideon do a little digging. He’d bet the farm that her dad had done a little digging as well.

Linc: Okay, see you then.

Leila opened the door two seconds after he knocked.

Sure, I wasn’t excited at all about seeing him again.

“Hi.” She grinned.

Oh, those eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes.

“Hello, Leila.”

She stared.

Had she called him pretty? He was gorgeous.

“It’s so good to see you. Especially under happier circumstances. And when I don’t have two black eyes.”

“You looked fantastic then, and you look fantastic now. Here.” He handed her a bouquet of flowers. “These are for your mother.”
