Bonnie made it up the walkway to her front door and Jase easily kept up with her. He watched as somehow, she put her hand in her huge purse and came out with her keys in seconds. She unlocked the door and stepped back so he could go in first.
She closed and locked the door, then reset the alarm.
“This way,” she whispered.
He followed her down the short hallway. She pushed open a door that led into a room that was painted with soft green walls and had Wonder Woman and Einstein posters up on the walls. Jase was loving this girl more and more. Bonnie motioned for Jase to place her on the yellow-flowered bedspread.
“I’ll get her dressed for bed after I show you where to put Lachlan.”
His bedroom was down the hall.
No posters for this kid, but he seemed to have every single action figure for Iron Man known to mankind. Each one was lovingly displayed on shelves near his bed. He even had an Iron Man bedspread. Looked like Mama indulged her boy. Come to think of it, there had been a high-end telescope in Amber’s room.
Jase would bet his bottom dollar that Bonnie didn’t indulge herself nearly as much as she did her kids.
“I don’t want to go to bed,” Lachlan said, as Jase laid him down. Then he rolled over, grabbed his pillow, and started to softly snore.
“They’ve got one-track minds,” he chuckled quietly.
“I know,” Bonnie said as she headed out of Lachlan’s room. “I don’t know where they get it from.”
Jase snorted. “Yeah, I can’t imagine.”
“Can I get you something to drink? I have sweet tea, water, soda, lemonade, and I also bought some Dorothy’s lager.”
Jase stopped as she continued on into the kitchen. She’d remembered and bought the beer he’d ordered at the restaurant? Hell, he could count on three fingers the women who’d done that for him, and none of them had done that after just one date.
She wasn’t even trying to impress him; she was just made to observe people, then do nice things for them.
Mom would love her.
“Jase? I’ll totally understand if you don’t want to stay.”
Shit. He hadn’t responded.
“I would love the lager,” he answered.
She grinned.
That smile lit up her face. Every one of her smiles hit him in the gut. What was it about this woman?
She pulled the bottle out of the refrigerator. “I don’t have any beer glasses, but I could pour it into a tall water glass if you’d like.”
“The bottle’s fine.”
“Here you go.” She handed him the bottle. “I’m going to get them dressed for bed. I shouldn’t be too long.”
“I want to know if Amber brings up the batting cages again.”
“Oh, she will.” Bonnie shook her head and looked heavenward. “That girl.”
Jase sat down on the couch. Bonnie fished out the remote from between the cushions. “Here, watch whatever you want.”
“Thanks.”
She had a sexy sway even when she was wearing tennis shoes.
Shit, when did I become an ass man? I always thought it was all about a woman’s legs. Then again, I’m basically all about Bonnie.
