His lips part, and he looks confused and suspicious.

“Because-”

“No, because. I want to. I would want to. There would not be a reason or an exchange. I would just do it. I don’t hate you, Lix, far from it.”

“Does this really need to be dinner conversation?” Jace says in a strangled voice.

“I’d suck yours, too, but you know, you vetoed it,” I snap.

“How many people would you offer this to?” Felix asks in a voice that sounds like cold glass.

“Three. And her. Of course, I’d love to eat you out, baby.” I wink at Khione, and she smiles smugly back.

Felix sits back in the chair, forgetting about his dinner. I keep eating, happily making noises of appreciation, while Khione laughs softly.

“I think I’ll take you up on your offer.”

I choke, turning my head to stare at the female omega who is rocking my mundane world.

“What?”

“I think when I feel the need, I’m going to come see you. Since the offer is on the table.”

I swallow hard; I can just imagine how Felix feels right now. “Well. Okay, then. You, uh, let me know.”

“Oh, I will. You are going to lie there and let me ride your face.”

She says it like she’s announcing the sky is cloudy. My mind hears it, dismisses it, and then goes ‘hang on a second.’

“Ride? Mmm-my face?”

She brushes her hair behind her ear and meets my eyes. “Yes, I want to sit on your face, Alpha.”

I slide off my chair and lay on the floor. “Take me now!”

Zaire snorts an amused laugh and reaches out, placing a hand on hers. She looks up at him, and I realise that she loves him, and he loves her.

This whole temporary pack is a whole mess of tangled threads. We’ve all got feelings for each other, and the potential to fall for the others is right there.

We could be amazing together. I get back up and sit down, picking up my pizza and chewing thoughtfully.

Holly said to fight.

I’m going to do just that.

“CLINT MCGOWEN!”

I set my pizza down regretfully. “Prepare yourselves, my friends.”

“For what?” Zaire asks.

“My parents,” I say in a dark voice, looking at Jace, who has his lips pressed together and one hand under the table, where he is no doubt clenching it hard enough to shatter marbles.

The rosewater my stepmother uses fills the house. Spectre grumbles and walks into the kitchen, disappearing from view.

I’m jealous.

My dad appears first. A big man with wrinkles on his forehead. We have a passing resemblance, but I look like my mother. My dad is thick, and age has given him a little bit of a belly that has come from indulging in too many brews after work.
