I narrow my eyes. “How do you know I was going to say something?”
He touches my forehead with a finger. “You get wrinkles here when you’re thinking too hard.”
I pull his hand away from my face, but he doesn’t let go of my hand. And I find it incredibly hard to pull away too.
Just like always.
“I don’t think I can reciprocate the feelings you have for me, Dominic,” I say as the car comes to a slow stop in front of my place. “It’s not like I don’t… appreciate you. I feel like you have given me so much in such a short time that I would never be able to put it into words properly. But I am not in a good place right now, and this just feels…wrong. Forbidden. And you are too good to want that.”
He removes his seatbelt, turning to face me, and I find it incredibly hard to look into his eyes.
He has such beautiful eyes. Mysterious yet so attractive. Enough to pull you in towards him.
“I don’t want anything in return, Sienna. Just because I confessed my feelings for you doesn’t mean I want anything in return. But that also doesn’t mean that I am going to give up on you.”
He leaves my hand to caress my cheek, and even though it’s wrong, I let him.
Because I don’t think I will allow myself this comfort for a long, long time.
“Forbidden or not, Sienna. I am not giving you up without a fight. Not now. Not ever. You deserve everything, and I want to be the one to give it to you.”
Dominic Wolfe
“Dom—” she says in her sweet voice, which is like music to my ears, and I just hum. Her eyes bewitch me, and the way she looks at me, with half-annoyance and half-admiration, makes it worth living. Hell, it makes me want to give my younger self a pat on his back for remaining single.
I never hoped that I would fall in love with anyone. But she came into my life like a story I never saw coming. A story I would have never picked up on my own. I also thank the one random visit to London, to that bookstore, and to the person who led me to her book.
Because if it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t have been able to find her so soon.
“Yes?”
I don’t think she realizes that despite everything she says about her feelings for me, her eyes, her face, and every part of her body gravitate toward me in the same way I gravitate toward her.
She opens her mouth to speak, and Roy chooses to call me at the exact moment because that fucker has bad timing.
“I should go,” she says, pulling away from me, leaving me empty and hollow as my life before I met her.
“Don’t—”
“What?” She turns to me, her hand on the handle of the car door.
Don’t leave yet.
“Don’t come to the office tomorrow,” I say instead of spilling my feelings all over her once again. “I will send Roy, and he will bring you to the new location where no one will disturb us.”
I see questions swirling in her eyes before she nods.
“Good night, Dominic.”
She smiles at me one last time before shutting the door and walking far, far away from me.
“Good night, cara mia.”
He rings me again, and I furrow my brows. He is such a mood killer.
“What?” I yell the moment I pick up.
“What’s got your knickers in a twist?” He counters.
