Then, suddenly, she was pulling away, breaking her lips away from mine. I nipped at her bottom lip as she eased away from me.
She ducked her head into the crook of my neck, a shy, sweet smile curving on her lips—full and red from the friction. I bowed close to her, pressing my forehead to her temple. My pulse thrummed in my wrist, no doubt loud enough that she could hear it.
“I…” she started, her voice husky and low in the back of her throat. I closed my eyes at the sound of her voice.
“You?” I repeated, matching her tone.
“I wanted to seduce you tonight.”
I tightened my fingers in her hair. Everything we’d talked about leading up to this flashed through my mind. She’s wanted me. All along.
The realization sent a jolt of desire reverberating through my body.
“I’m guessing you tabled the idea?” I shifted my hands back down to rest on her shoulder, blinking my eyes open.
June was watching me, wry amusement twitching at the corner of her mouth. I brushed my thumb over her bottom lip. She rocked her head side to side. “I had, yeah.”
“Had?”
She reached up and brushed hair back behind my ears. “Yeah, Joey. Had.”
Then she kissed me, arms twisting around my neck, her chest pressed flush against me. Her mouth became urgent as she tightened her grip on me—almost an acknowledgment of what was happening with my body, that she could feel me growing harder for her. An encouragement, even.
So, I slipped my hands down over her full hips, trailing over the contour of her ass. She responded with a small gasp, her back arching and her hips lifting to meet mine.
I began to lift her. For a moment she resisted, breaking our kiss with a squeal and a string of hushed no, no, you can’t. But all I had to do was look down at her and raise a brow and she just grinned, nose scrunching. With a palmful of her in each hand, I dragged her body up against mine until her legs looped around my waist. And then her mouth was on mine again, hungry.
I set her gently onto the island countertop, sliding my hands back up over the curve of her waist as her warm lips migrated, trailing away from my mouth, down over my jaw, her tongue tracing small circles over my neck. Another surge of desire ripped through me.
“June.”
Chapter 11 June
I couldn’t handle the way he said my name.
I couldn’t handle the way his lips felt on mine.
I couldn’t handle the way his hands felt touching me—grabbing me.
I felt like I might faint, explode, combust with all the months of pent-up desire let loose inside of me. I wanted everything—all at once. I didn’t want a bite of focaccia or a taste of chocolate cake. I wanted to gorge myself. I wanted every inch of Joey.
I tightened my legs around his hips, scooting to the edge of the counter until the heat of my sex was pressed against him. Joey tightened his grip on me in response, and I rolled my hips against his, my breathing taut and ragged. I kissed and licked and teased his neck, tracing the corded muscles of his sweet, salty skin while his hands flexed around my thighs and hips, encouraging me.
“So, am I being seduced?” he asked in a hoarse voice, fingers flitting under the edge of my sweater and stroking at the soft skin of my midriff. It took everything in me not to throw my head back and beg for him to slide his hands down lower, between my thighs.
I wasn’t hungry; I was famished.
“Haven’t decided yet,” I managed as he toyed with the waistband of my jeans, one treacherous finger tracing back and forth where the material met my skin. I responded by slowing the speed at which my lips danced down over his exposed collarbones.
“Really?” The column of his throat vibrated with his voice, heavy and deep with effort. “You seem pretty committed.”
I bit my lip, pulling back. “Do I?” He’d made a mistake, coming for my pride. “I can stop at any moment.”
His fingers stilled at the small of my back, fire dancing in his eyes. “Oh, really?”
I hummed softly, letting my lips buzz against his skin. “Yup.”
“Well, in that case.” Joey stepped back, away from me. Immediately, I felt like a baby who had their favorite toy snatched out of their hands. His eyes were shining, his curls ruffled, his lips puffy and deep red. He held me there with his deep, dark gaze. His eyes were nearly black in the low kitchen light, framed by thickets of dark lashes. He dragged his gaze up and down me, as hot and heavy as his hands.
