“I’m ready,” I whispered, losing my fingers in his hair, dragging them down the harsh angle of his jaw. He pulled back from me, pinning me to the mattress with a dark, heavy-lidded gaze as he reached into his nightstand and set something atop the surface before coming back to me.

“Yeah?” He looped a finger through the elastic of my underwear and pulled them down in a quick movement.

“Yes,” I gasped.

His fingers trailed up the soft inside of my thigh—a maddeningly even pace no matter how much I opened myself to him. Then, finally, he slipped a finger inside me. “Yeah.” His voice dripped with a wicked, delicious control. A choked sound of pleasure and shock worked its way through me. I canted my hips forward, desperate for more. “You’re ready.”

I relished the sight of my pale thigh against his skin, his chest rising and falling, the contours of his muscles drenched in moonlight. In a moment, hunger and greediness flared like twin flames in my stomach. Breathless, I reached for his other hand, tangling my fingers with his, bringing his fingers to my lips. His eyes locked on mine, his lips parting with concentration, with wild arousal.

Nothing would relieve this desperation but him—all of him.

As if he could read my mind, Joey broke away and pulled me carefully to the edge of the mattress, standing back to gaze down at me, tenderness painted through all of his features. He grabbed the condom he’d just set aside and, without taking his eyes off me, pushed the tight fabric of his boxers down his thighs and slowly unrolled the condom down his thick length. Desire surged in me at the sight and a soft moan escaped my lips.

I reached for him, needy, and he reached back.

Joey dragged the rough palm of his hand up and around the back of my thigh and adjusted my hips, sliding his length over me, back and forth, a deep breath hissing through his teeth. Then he began to push into me. A gasp snagged in my chest at the sudden fullness and sharp pain, quickly eclipsed by pure bliss and a deep soul-level satiation crashing over me.

Two years without this.

Two years ago suddenly felt like another lifetime; everything before this felt like it belonged to another June. In this moment there was nothing but the ratcheting bliss in my chest, the gathering hunger in my stomach that wanted more of Joey. More of him in me, more of his mouth on mine, more of his low hums of pleasure falling hotly against my jaw, against the hollow base of my throat.

“June,” he whispered, fingers tightening around the swell of my thighs. “Are you ok?”

“Perfect,” I managed. With you, everything’s perfect. “I’m perfect.”

He hitched my thigh higher, pressing deeper, filling me until a moan choked from my throat while he cupped my breasts and placed a line of kisses up and down the side of my neck.

“I…” Joey’s voice was a warm rasp against the hollow base of my throat. “Have been waiting for this moment.”

“Liar,” I gasped, pushing my fingers into his hair.

Joey tutted softly, smoothing my hair away from my face, gathering it into his hand as he rasped, “I would never, ever lie to you.”

I pressed hard into him, arching my back until his hold on my hair became almost painful, his name a plea—a prayer—on my lips. Joey deepened his thrusts, urging me closer and closer to the edge, and something like love coursed through me. It felt like love—a breathless, bottomless need for him, deeper than what was physically possible. A clawing, dripping, mind-bending need for this to stretch on forever.

The ache and twist of pleasure coiled tighter and brighter in my stomach as our hold on the moment slipped further and further out of hand, until my name was on his lips and sweat slicked our chests and his lips and neck and shoulder were snagged under my teeth.

It was all coming back to me—what I liked, how I liked it. What I’d been denied.

I wanted to find the razor thin edge between pain and pleasure. I wanted to watch Joey slipping in and out of me; I wanted to watch his abs flex and release with each thrust; I wanted him to tighten his fingers in my hair and expose my throat to his hungry mouth while he used every bit of his powerful body to bring me closer and closer to ecstasy.

I wanted to forget every moment I’d been denied sex this good. Every moment I had denied myself.

Joey gathered me up in his arms and lifted me off the mattress with ease, settling us back again so I was on top of him. His eyes danced over my face, fingers smoothing my hair and slipping back to cup the back of my head as I ground my hips into his. His eyes flashed with a look that seemed to be awe—lust and amazement, heavy and thick with desire.

He breathed against my neck, the tip of his nose tracing a path from my jaw to my breasts, where he paused to bite and suck at my nipples as he gripped the width of my ass in his hands. “I fucking love this.”

The word this caught on his teeth. Snagged between his plush lips.

I pressed harder into him, moving faster, flush against his body, hips to hips and chest to chest, words lost to me as my mind went completely blank. I fucking love this. With each pump of our bodies against each other, I climbed higher and higher. And Joey was right there with me, groans and gasps filling the air between us as we lost the last bit of restraint either of us had.

“I have to tell you something.” Joey’s voice slid through the quiet like a snake over the forest ground, a gentle rasp that barely disturbed the contented silence we’d fallen into. We laid side by side, Joey tracing shapes across my open palm. Through the window, the nearly full moon turned the sky into blue velvet.

“You’re married?” I joked.

He laughed. “No. Weirder than that.”
